Hosea 2

GNT 1 So call your fellow Israelites "God's People" and "Loved-by-the-Lord." NIV 1 “Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’ GNT 2 My children, plead with your mother - though she is no longer a wife to me, and I am no longer her husband. Plead with her to stop her adultery and prostitution. NIV 2 “Rebuke your mother, rebuke her, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts. GNT 3 If she does not, I will strip her as naked as she was on the day she was born. I will make her like a dry and barren land, and she will die of thirst. NIV 3 Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born; I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst. GNT 4 I will not show mercy to her children; they are the children of a shameless prostitute. She herself said, "I will go to my lovers - they give me food and water, wool and linen, olive oil and wine." NIV 4 I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery. GNT 6 So I am going to fence her in with thorn bushes and build a wall to block her way. NIV 6 Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way. GNT 7 She will run after her lovers but will not catch them. She will look for them but will not find them. Then she will say, "I am going back to my first husband - I was better off then than I am now." NIV 7 She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.’ GNT 8 She would never acknowledge that I am the one who gave her the grain, the wine, the olive oil, and all the silver and gold that she used in the worship of Baal. NIV 8 She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold— which they used for Baal. GNT 9 So at harvest time I will take back my gifts of grain and wine, and will take away the wool and the linen I gave her for clothing. NIV 9 “Therefore I will take away my grain when it ripens, and my new wine when it is ready. I will take back my wool and my linen, intended to cover her naked body. GNT 10 I will strip her naked in front of her lovers, and no one will be able to save her from my power. NIV 10 So now I will expose her lewdness before the eyes of her lovers; no one will take her out of my hands. GNT 11 I will put an end to all her festivities - her annual and monthly festivals and her Sabbath celebrations - all her religious meetings. NIV 11 I will stop all her celebrations: her yearly festivals, her New Moons, her Sabbath days—all her appointed festivals. GNT 12 I will destroy her grapevines and her fig trees, which she said her lovers gave her for serving them. I will turn her vineyards and orchards into a wilderness; wild animals will destroy them. NIV 12 I will ruin her vines and her fig trees, which she said were her pay from her lovers; I will make them a thicket, and wild animals will devour them. GNT 13 I will punish her for the times that she forgot me, when she burned incense to Baal and put on her jewelry to go chasing after her lovers. The Lord has spoken. NIV 13 I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot,” declares the LORD. GNT 14 So I am going to take her into the desert again; there I will win her back with words of love. NIV 14 “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her. GNT 15 I will give back to her the vineyards she had and make Trouble Valley a door of hope. She will respond to me there as she did when she was young, when she came from Egypt. NIV 15 There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will respond as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt. GNT 16 Then once again she will call me her husband - she will no longer call me her Baal. NIV 16 “In that day,” declares the LORD, “you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master. ’ GNT 17 I will never let her speak the name of Baal again. NIV 17 I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips; no longer will their names be invoked. GNT 18 At that time I will make a covenant with all the wild animals and birds, so that they will not harm my people. I will also remove all weapons of war from the land, all swords and bows, and will let my people live in peace and safety. NIV 18 In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky and the creatures that move along the ground. Bow and sword and battle I will abolish from the land, so that all may lie down in safety. GNT 19 Israel, I will make you my wife; I will be true and faithful; I will show you constant love and mercy and make you mine forever. NIV 19 I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. GNT 20 I will keep my promise and make you mine, and you will acknowledge me as Lord. NIV 20 I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD. GNT 21 At that time I will answer the prayers of my people Israel. I will make rain fall on the earth, and the earth will produce grain and grapes and olives. NIV 21 “In that day I will respond,” declares the LORD— “I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth; GNT 23 I will establish my people in the land and make them prosper. I will show love to those who were called "Unloved," and to those who were called "Not-My-People" I will say, "You are my people," and they will answer, "You are our God." NIV 23 I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one. ’ I will say to those called ‘Not my people, ’ ‘You are my people’; and they will say, ‘You are my God.’ ”
