1 Mensaje acerca de Babilonia<br />Isaías, hijo de Amoz, recibió el siguiente mensaje acerca de la destrucción de Babilonia:

2 «Levanta una bandera de señales en la cumbre descubierta de una colina;<br />llama al ejército contra Babilonia.<br />Hazles señas con la mano para darles ánimo<br />mientras marchan hacia los palacios de los grandes y poderosos.

3 Yo, el Señor<br />, he consagrado a estos soldados para realizar esta tarea.<br />Es cierto, he llamado a guerreros poderosos para que manifiesten mi enojo,<br />y ellos se alegrarán cuando yo sea exaltado».

4 ¡Oigan el ruido que hay en los montes!<br />¡Escuchen, mientras marchan los enormes ejércitos!<br />Es el ruido y el griterío de muchas naciones.<br />El Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales ha convocado a este ejército.

5 Vienen desde países distantes,<br />desde más allá de los horizontes lejanos.<br />Son las armas del Señor<br /> para descargar su enojo;<br />con ellas destruirá toda la tierra.

6 Griten de terror, porque ha llegado el día del Señor<br />,<br />el momento para que el Todopoderoso destruya.

7 Todos los brazos están paralizados de temor,<br />cada corazón se derrite

8 y todos se aterran.<br />Les sobrevendrán punzadas de angustia,<br />como las de una mujer que está de parto.<br />Se miran unos a otros sin poder hacer nada,<br />con el rostro encendido de miedo.

9 Pues miren, el día del Señor<br /> ya viene,<br />el día terrible de su furia y de su ira feroz.<br />La tierra quedará desolada,<br />y con ella los pecadores serán destruidos.

10 Los cielos se pondrán negros sobre ellos;<br />las estrellas no darán luz.<br />El sol estará oscuro cuando salga<br />y la luna no iluminará.

11 «Yo, el Señor<br />, castigaré al mundo por su maldad<br />y a los perversos por su pecado.<br />Aplastaré la arrogancia de los soberbios<br />y humillaré el orgullo de los poderosos.

12 Haré que la gente sea más escasa que el oro;<br />más escasa que el oro fino de Ofir.

13 Pues sacudiré los cielos<br />y la tierra se saldrá de su lugar<br />cuando el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales manifieste su furor<br />en el día de su ira feroz».

14 En Babilonia todos correrán como gacelas perseguidas,<br />como ovejas sin pastor.<br />Intentarán encontrar a los suyos<br />y huir a su propia tierra.

15 El que sea capturado será destruido,<br />atravesado con una espada.

16 Ante sus propios ojos, estrellarán a sus niños pequeños hasta matarlos.<br />Sus hogares serán saqueados, y sus mujeres violadas.

17 «Miren, yo incitaré a los medos contra Babilonia.<br />No se les puede tentar con plata<br />ni sobornar con oro.

18 Los ejércitos agresores traspasarán a los jóvenes con sus flechas.<br />No tendrán misericordia de los indefensos bebés<br />ni compasión de los niños».

19 Babilonia, el más glorioso de los reinos,<br />la flor del orgullo caldeo,<br />será devastada como Sodoma y Gomorra<br />cuando Dios las destruyó.

20 Babilonia nunca más volverá a ser habitada;<br />permanecerá vacía de generación en generación.<br />Los nómadas se negarán a acampar allí,<br />y los pastores no llevarán a sus ovejas para que pasen la noche.

21 Las bestias del desierto se instalarán en la ciudad en ruinas<br />y en las casas rondarán criaturas aullantes.<br />Los búhos vivirán en medio de las ruinas<br />y las cabras salvajes irán allí para danzar.

22 Las hienas aullarán en las fortalezas<br />y los chacales harán su guarida en los lujosos palacios.<br />Los días de Babilonia están contados;<br />pronto llegará el momento de su destrucción.

1 A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

2 Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles.

3 I have commanded those I prepared for battle; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath— those who rejoice in my triumph.

4 Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war.

5 They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens— the LORD and the weapons of his wrath— to destroy the whole country.

6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

7 Because of this, all hands will go limp, every heart will melt with fear.

8 Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame.

9 See, the day of the LORD is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.

10 The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.

11 I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

12 I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir.

13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.

14 Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, they will all return to their own people, they will flee to their native land.

15 Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword.

16 Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated.

17 See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold.

18 Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children.

19 Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians,will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.

20 She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations; there no nomads will pitch their tents, there no shepherds will rest their flocks.

21 But desert creatures will lie there, jackals will fill her houses; there the owls will dwell, and there the wild goats will leap about.

22 Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds, jackals her luxurious palaces. Her time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.
