1 ¡Ay de la corona de arrogancia de los ebrios de Efraín, y de la flor marchita de su gloriosa hermosura, que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil de los vencidos por el vino!

2 He aquí que uno, fuerte y poderoso, de parte del Señor, como tormenta de granizo, tempestad destructora, como tormenta de violentas aguas desbordadas, los ha lanzado a tierra con su mano.

3 Con los pies es hollada la corona de arrogancia de los ebrios de Efraín.

4 Y la flor marchita de su gloriosa hermosura, que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil, será como el primer higo maduro antes del verano, el cual uno ve, y tan pronto está en su mano se lo traga.

5 En aquel día el SEÑOR de los ejércitos será hermosa corona, gloriosa diadema para el remanente de su pueblo,

6 espíritu de justicia para el que se sienta en juicio, y fuerza para aquellos que rechazan el asalto en la puerta.

7 También estos se tambalean por el vino y dan traspiés por el licor: el sacerdote y el profeta por el licor se tambalean, están ofuscados por el vino, por el licor dan traspiés; vacilan en sus visiones, titubean al pronunciar juicio.

8 Porque todas las mesas están llenas de vómito asqueroso, sin un solo lugar limpio.

9 ¿A quién enseñará conocimiento, o a quién interpretará el mensaje? ¿A los recién destetados? ¿A los recién quitados de los pechos?

10 Porque dice: "Mandato sobre mandato, mandato sobre mandato, línea sobre línea, línea sobre línea, un poco aquí, un poco allá."

11 En verdad, con tartamudez de labios y en lengua extranjera, El hablará a este pueblo,

12 al cual había dicho: Aquí hay reposo, dad reposo al cansado; y: Aquí hay descanso. Pero no quisieron escuchar.

13 Por lo cual la palabra del SEÑOR para ellos será: Mandato sobre mandato, mandato sobre mandato, línea sobre línea, línea sobre línea, un poco aquí, un poco allá, para que vayan y caigan de espaldas, se quiebren los huesos, y sean enlazados y apresados.

14 Por tanto, oíd la palabra del SEÑOR, oh escarnecedores, gobernantes de este pueblo que está en Jerusalén.

15 Porque habéis dicho: Hemos hecho un pacto con la muerte, hemos hecho un convenio con el Seol; cuando pase el azote abrumador, no nos alcanzará, porque hemos hecho de la mentira nuestro refugio y en el engaño nos hemos escondido.

16 Por tanto, así dice el Señor DIOS: He aquí, pongo por fundamento en Sion una piedra, una piedra probada, angular, preciosa, fundamental, bien colocada. El que crea en ella no será perturbado.

17 Pondré el juicio por medida, y la justicia por nivel; el granizo barrerá el refugio de la mentira, y las aguas cubrirán el escondite.

18 Y será abolido vuestro pacto con la muerte, vuestro convenio con el Seol no quedará en pie; cuando pase el azote abrumador, seréis su holladero.

19 Cuantas veces pase, os arrebatará, porque pasará mañana tras mañana, de día y de noche; y será terrible espanto el comprender el mensaje.

20 La cama es muy corta para estirarse en ella, y la manta muy estrecha para envolverse en ella.

21 Porque el SEÑOR se levantará como en el monte Perazim, se enojará como en el valle de Gabaón, para hacer su tarea, su extraña tarea, y para hacer su obra, su extraordinaria obra.

22 Y ahora, no continuéis como escarnecedores, no sea que se hagan más fuertes vuestros grillos, pues de parte del Señor, DIOS de los ejércitos, he oído de una destrucción decretada sobre la tierra.

23 Escuchad y oíd mi voz, prestad atención y oíd mis palabras.

24 ¿Acaso para sembrar se pasa arando el labrador todo el día, abriendo y rastrillando su tierra?

25 ¿No allana su superficie y siembra eneldo y esparce comino, y siembra trigo en hileras, cebada en su debido lugar, y centeno dentro de sus límites?

26 Porque su Dios le instruye y le enseña cómo hacerlo.

27 Pues no se trilla el eneldo con el trillo, ni se hace girar la rueda de carreta sobre el comino; sino que con vara se sacude el eneldo, y con palo el comino.

28 El grano es triturado, pero no se le seguirá trillando indefinidamente; debido a que la rueda de la carreta y sus caballos lo dañarán, no se le triturará más.

29 También esto procede del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, que ha hecho maravilloso su consejo y grande su sabiduría.

1 Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley Of those who are overcome with wine!

2 Behold, the Lord has a strong and mighty agent; As a storm of hail, a tempest of destruction, Like a storm of mighty overflowing waters, He has cast it down to the earth with His hand.

3 The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim is trodden under foot.

4 And the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley, Will be like the first-ripe fig prior to summer, Which one sees, And as soon as it is in his hand, He swallows it.

5 In that day the LORD of hosts will become a beautiful crown And a glorious diadem to the remnant of His people;

6 A spirit of justice for him who sits in judgment, A strength to those who repel the onslaught at the gate.

7 And these also reel with wine and stagger from strong drink: The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, They are confused by wine, they stagger from strong drink; They reel while having visions, They totter when rendering judgment.

8 For all the tables are full of filthy vomit, without a single clean place.

9 "To whom would He teach knowledge, And to whom would He interpret the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just taken from the breast?

10 "For He says, 'Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there.' "

11 Indeed, He will speak to this people Through stammering lips and a foreign tongue,

12 He who said to them, "Here is rest, give rest to the weary," And, "Here is repose," but they would not listen.

13 So the word of the LORD to them will be, "Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there," That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.

14 Therefore, hear the word of the LORD , O scoffers , Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem,

15 Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a pact. The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by, For we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception."

16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

17 "I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place.

18 "Your covenant with death will be canceled, And your pact with Sheol will not stand; When the overwhelming scourge passes through, Then you become its trampling place.

19 "As often as it passes through, it will seize you; For morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night, And it will be sheer terror to understand what it means."

20 The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in.

21 For the LORD will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon, To do His task, His unusual task, And to work His work, His extraordinary work.

22 And now do not carry on as scoffers, Or your fetters will be made stronger; For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts Of decisive destruction on all the earth.

23 Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words.

24 Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he continually turn and harrow the ground?

25 Does he not level its surface And sow dill and scatter cummin And plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place and rye within its area?

26 For his God instructs and teaches him properly.

27 For dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, Nor is the cartwheel driven over cummin; But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a club.

28 Grain for bread is crushed, Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever. Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually damage it, He does not thresh it longer.

29 This also comes from the LORD of hosts, Who has made His counsel wonderful and His wisdom great.
