1 O LORD, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them.

The LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, [even] counsels of old, in faithfulness [and] truth.
2 You turn mighty cities into heaps of ruins. Cities with strong walls are turned to rubble. Beautiful palaces in distant lands disappear and will never be rebuilt.

For you have made of a city a heap, of a fortified city a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
3 Therefore, strong nations will declare your glory; ruthless nations will fear you.

Therefore shall a strong people glorify you; a city of awesome nations shall fear you.
4 But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O LORD, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat. For the oppressive acts of ruthless people are like a storm beating against a wall,

For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat, when the blast of the awesome ones is as a storm against the wall.
5 or like the relentless heat of the desert. But you silence the roar of foreign nations. As the shade of a cloud cools relentless heat, so the boastful songs of ruthless people are stilled.

As the heat in a dry place will you bring down the noise of strangers; as the heat by the shade of a cloud, the song of the awesome ones shall be brought low.
6 In Jerusalem, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat.

In this mountain will the LORD of Hosts make to all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.
7 There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.

He will destroy in this mountain the surface of the covering that covers all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations.
8 He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The LORD has spoken!

He has swallowed up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people will he take away from off all the eretz: for the LORD has spoken it.
9 In that day the people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

It shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his yeshu`ah.
10 For the LORD ’s hand of blessing will rest on Jerusalem. But Moab will be crushed. It will be like straw trampled down and left to rot.

For in this mountain will the hand of the LORD rest; and Mo'av shall be trodden down in his place, even as straw is trodden down in the water of the dung-hill.
11 God will push down Moab’s people as a swimmer pushes down water with his hands. He will end their pride and all their evil works.

He shall spread forth his hands in the midst of it, as he who swims spreads forth [his hands] to swim; but [the LORD] will lay low his pride together with the craft of his hands.
12 The high walls of Moab will be demolished. They will be brought down to the ground, down into the dust.

The high fortress of your walls has he brought down, laid low, and brought to the ground, even to the dust.
