1 When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.

2 Now the house of David was told, “Aram has allied itself with Ephraim”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.

3 Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub, to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field.

4 Say to him, ‘Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood—because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.

5 Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying,

6 “Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.”

7 Yet this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘It will not take place, it will not happen,

8 for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is only Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people.

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’ ”

10 Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,

11 “Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.”

13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,

16 for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

17 The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.”

18 In that day the LORD will whistle for flies from the Nile delta in Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.

19 They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes.

20 In that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates River—the king of Assyria—to shave your heads and private parts, and to cut off your beards also.

21 In that day, a person will keep alive a young cow and two goats.

22 And because of the abundance of the milk they give, there will be curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.

23 In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, there will be only briers and thorns.

24 Hunters will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.

25 As for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.

1 Acaz, hijo de Jotán y nieto de Uzías, reinaba en Judá. En ese tiempo Rezín, rey de Siria, y Pécaj hijo de Remalías, rey de Israel, subieron contra Jerusalén para atacarla, pero no pudieron conquistarla.

2 En el palacio de David se recibió la noticia de que Siria se había aliado con Efraín, y se estremeció el corazón de Acaz y el de su pueblo, como se estremecen por el viento los árboles del bosque.

3 El SEÑOR le dijo a Isaías: «Ve con tu hijo Sear Yasub a encontrarte con Acaz donde termina el canal del estanque superior, en el camino que conduce al Campo del Lavandero.

4 Dile que tenga cuidado y no pierda la calma; que no tema ante el enojo ardiente de Rezín el sirio, ni ante el hijo de Remalías; que no se descorazone a causa de esos dos tizones humeantes.

5 Dile también que Efraín, junto con el hijo de Remalías y el sirio, han tramado hacerle mal, pues piensan

6 subir contra Judá, provocar el pánico, conquistarla y poner allí como rey al hijo de Tabel.

7 Pero dile además que yo, el SEÑOR omnipotente, digo:»“Eso no se cumplirá ni sucederá.

8 La cabeza de Siria es Damasco,y la cabeza de Damasco es Rezín;pero dentro de sesenta y cinco añosEfraín será destrozado hasta dejar de ser pueblo.

9 La cabeza de Efraín es Samaria,y la cabeza de Samaria es el hijo de Remalías;si ustedes no creen en mí,no permanecerán firmes”».

10 El SEÑOR se dirigió a Acaz de nuevo:

11 —Pide que el SEÑOR tu Dios te dé una señal, ya sea en lo más profundo de la tierra o en lo más alto del cielo.

12 Pero Acaz respondió:—No pondré a prueba al SEÑOR, ni le pediré nada.

13 Entonces Isaías dijo: «¡Escuchen ahora ustedes, los de la dinastía de David! ¿No les basta con agotar la paciencia de los hombres, que hacen lo mismo con mi Dios?

14 Por eso, el Señor mismo les dará una señal: La doncella concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y lo llamará Emanuel.

15 Cuando sepa elegir lo bueno y rechazar lo malo, comerá cuajada con miel.

16 Porque antes de que el niño sepa elegir lo bueno y rechazar lo malo, la tierra de los dos reyes que tú temes quedará abandonada.

17 »El SEÑOR hará venir sobre ti, sobre tu pueblo y sobre la dinastía de tu padre, días como no se conocieron desde que Efraín se separó de Judá, pues hará venir al rey de Asiria».

18 En aquel día el SEÑOR llamará con un silbido a la mosca que está en los lejanos ríos de Egipto, y a la abeja que está en la tierra de Asiria.

19 Todas ellas vendrán y anidarán en las quebradas profundas, en las hendiduras de las rocas, en todos los matorrales espinosos y sobre todos los abrevaderos.

20 En aquel día, con el rey de Asiria como navaja prestada del otro lado del río Éufrates, el Señor le afeitará a Israel la cabeza y el vello púbico, y también la barba.

21 En aquel día, un hombre criará un ternero y dos cabras;

22 y le darán tanta leche que tendrá leche cuajada para comer. Además, todos los que permanezcan en la tierra comerán cuajada con miel.

23 En aquel día, allí donde hubo mil viñedos que costaban mil monedas de plata cada uno, no quedarán más que zarzas y espinos,

24 los cuales cubrirán toda la tierra. Solo se podrá entrar allí con arco y flecha.

25 Y por temor a estos espinos y a estas zarzas, ya no irás a los cerros que antes se cultivaban con el azadón, pues se convertirán en lugares donde se suelta el ganado y corretean las ovejas.
