James 5:7-20

KJV 7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. NIV 7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. KJV 8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. NIV 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. KJV 9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. NIV 9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! KJV 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. NIV 10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. KJV 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. NIV 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. KJV 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. NIV 12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned. KJV 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. NIV 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. KJV 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: NIV 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. KJV 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. NIV 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. KJV 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. NIV 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. KJV 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. NIV 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. KJV 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. NIV 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. KJV 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; NIV 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, KJV 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. NIV 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
