1 Mensaje a los reyes de Judá<br />Esto me dijo el Señor<br />: «Ve y habla directamente al rey de Judá. Dile:

2 “Rey de Judá, tú que te sientas en el trono de David, escucha el mensaje del Señor<br />. Deja que tus ayudantes y tu pueblo también escuchen.

3 Esto dice el Señor<br />: ‘Sean imparciales y justos. ¡Hagan lo que es correcto! Ayuden a quienes han sufrido robos; rescátenlos de sus opresores. ¡Abandonen sus malas acciones! No maltraten a los extranjeros, ni a los huérfanos ni a las viudas. ¡Dejen de matar al inocente!

4 Si me obedecen, siempre habrá un descendiente de David sentado en el trono aquí en Jerusalén. El rey entrará por las puertas del palacio en carros y a caballo, con su corte de ayudantes y súbditos.

5 Sin embargo, si rehúsan prestar atención a esta advertencia, les juro por mi propio nombre —dice el Señor<br />—, que este palacio se convertirá en un montón de escombros’”».

6 Mensaje referente al palacio<br />Ahora bien, esto dice el Señor<br /> con respecto al palacio real de Judá:<br />«Te amo tanto como a la fructífera Galaad<br />y como a los verdes bosques del Líbano.<br />Pero te convertiré en un desierto<br />y nadie vivirá dentro de tus muros.

7 Citaré a obreros de demolición,<br />los cuales sacarán sus herramientas para desmantelarte.<br />Arrancarán todas tus selectas vigas de cedro<br />y las echarán al fuego.

8 »Gente de muchas naciones pasará por las ruinas de la ciudad y se dirán el uno al otro: “¿Por qué habrá destruido el Señor<br /> esta gran ciudad?”.

9 Y la contestación será: “Porque violaron su pacto con el Señor<br /> su Dios al rendir culto a otros dioses”».

10 Mensaje acerca de Joacaz<br />No lloren por el rey muerto ni lamenten su pérdida.<br />¡En cambio, lloren por el rey cautivo que se llevan al exilio<br />porque nunca más volverá para ver su tierra natal!

11 Pues esto dice el Señor<br /> acerca de Joacaz,<br /> quien sucedió en el trono a su padre, el rey Josías, y fue llevado cautivo: «Él nunca regresará.

12 Morirá en una tierra lejana y nunca más verá su propio país».

13 Mensaje acerca de Joacim<br />Y el Señor<br /> dice: «¡Qué aflicción le espera a Joacim,<br />que edifica su palacio con trabajo forzado!<br />Construye las paredes a base de injusticia,<br />porque obliga a sus vecinos a trabajar,<br />y no les paga por su trabajo.

14 Dice: “Construiré un palacio magnífico<br />con habitaciones enormes y muchas ventanas.<br />Lo revestiré con cedro fragante<br />y lo pintaré de un rojo agradable”.

15 ¡Pero un hermoso palacio de cedro no hace a un gran rey!<br />Josías, tu padre, también tenía mucha comida y bebida;<br />pero él era justo y recto en todo lo que hacía.<br />Por esa razón Dios lo bendijo.

16 Hizo justicia al pobre y al necesitado y los ayudó,<br />y le fue bien en todo.<br />¿No es eso lo que significa conocerme?<br />—dice el Señor<br />—.

17 ¡Pero tú, solo tienes ojos para la avaricia y la deshonestidad!<br />Asesinas al inocente,<br />oprimes al pobre y reinas sin piedad».

18 Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor<br /> acerca de Joacim, hijo del rey Josías:<br />«El pueblo no llorará por él, lamentandose entre sí:<br />“¡Ay, mi hermano! ¡Ay, mi hermana!”.<br />Sus súbditos no llorarán por él, lamentando:<br />“¡Ay, nuestro amo ha muerto! ¡Ay, su esplendor se ha ido!”.

19 Será enterrado como un burro muerto:<br />¡arrastrado fuera de Jerusalén y arrojado fuera de las puertas!

20 Llora por tus aliados en el Líbano;<br />grita por ellos en Basán.<br />Búscalos en las regiones al oriente del río.<br />Mira, todos han sido destruidos.<br />No quedó nadie para ayudarte.

21 Te lo advertí cuando eras próspero<br />pero respondiste: “¡No me fastidies!”.<br />Has sido así desde tu niñez,<br />¡nunca me obedeces!

22 Y ahora a tus aliados se los llevará el viento.<br />Todos tus amigos serán llevados cautivos.<br />Seguramente para entonces verás tu maldad y te avergonzarás.

23 Puede que sea lindo vivir en un palacio magnífico,<br />recubierto con madera de cedros del Líbano,<br />pero pronto gemirás con punzadas de angustia,<br />angustia como la de una mujer con dolores de parto.

24 Mensaje a Joaquín<br />»Tan cierto como que yo vivo —dice el Señor<br />—, te abandonaré, Joaquín,<br /> hijo de Joacim, rey de Judá. Aunque fueras el anillo con mi sello oficial en mi mano derecha, te arrancaría.

25 Te entregaré a los que buscan matarte —a los que tanto temes— al rey Nabucodonosor<br /> de Babilonia y al poderoso ejército babilónico.

26 Te expulsaré de esta tierra, a ti y a tu madre, y morirás en un país extranjero, no en tu tierra natal.

27 Nunca regresarás a la tierra que añoras.

28 »¿Por qué es este hombre, Joaquín, como una vasija desechada y rota?<br />¿Por qué serán él y sus hijos exiliados al extranjero?

29 ¡Oh tierra, tierra, tierra!<br />¡Escucha este mensaje del Señor<br />!

30 Esto dice el Señor<br />:<br />“Que conste en acta que este hombre, Joaquín, no tuvo hijos.<br />Él es un fracasado,<br />porque no tendrá hijos que le sucedan en el trono de David<br />para gobernar a Judá”.

1 This is what the LORD says: “Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there:

2 ‘Hear the word of the LORD to you, king of Judah, you who sit on David’s throne—you, your officials and your people who come through these gates.

3 This is what the LORD says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

4 For if you are careful to carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will come through the gates of this palace, riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by their officials and their people.

5 But if you do not obey these commands, declares the LORD, I swear by myself that this palace will become a ruin.’ ”

6 For this is what the LORD says about the palace of the king of Judah: “Though you are like Gilead to me, like the summit of Lebanon, I will surely make you like a wasteland, like towns not inhabited.

7 I will send destroyers against you, each man with his weapons, and they will cut up your fine cedar beams and throw them into the fire.

8 “People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?’

9 And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and have worshiped and served other gods.’ ”

10 Do not weep for the dead king or mourn his loss; rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled, because he will never return nor see his native land again.

11 For this is what the LORD says about Shallum son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: “He will never return.

12 He will die in the place where they have led him captive; he will not see this land again.”

13 “Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.

14 He says, ‘I will build myself a great palace with spacious upper rooms.’ So he makes large windows in it, panels it with cedar and decorates it in red.

15 “Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.

16 He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?” declares the LORD.

17 “But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.”

18 Therefore this is what the LORD says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: “They will not mourn for him: ‘Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’ They will not mourn for him: ‘Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!’

19 He will have the burial of a donkey— dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.”

20 “Go up to Lebanon and cry out, let your voice be heard in Bashan, cry out from Abarim, for all your allies are crushed.

21 I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, ‘I will not listen!’ This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me.

22 The wind will drive all your shepherds away, and your allies will go into exile. Then you will be ashamed and disgraced because of all your wickedness.

23 You who live in ‘Lebanon, ’ who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labor!

24 “As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would still pull you off.

25 I will deliver you into the hands of those who want to kill you, those you fear—Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Babylonians.

26 I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another country, where neither of you was born, and there you both will die.

27 You will never come back to the land you long to return to.”

28 Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot, an object no one wants? Why will he and his children be hurled out, cast into a land they do not know?

29 O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD!

30 This is what the LORD says: “Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah.”
