1 Y sucedió que en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, vino esta palabra a Jeremías de parte del SEÑOR, diciendo:

2 Toma un rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado acerca de Israel, acerca de Judá y acerca de todas las naciones, desde el día que te hablé, desde los días de Josías, hasta hoy.

3 Tal vez la casa de Judá oiga toda la calamidad que pienso traer sobre ellos, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino; entonces perdonaré su iniquidad y su pecado.

4 Llamó, pues, Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y Baruc escribió al dictado de Jeremías, en un rollo, todas las palabras que el SEÑOR le había hablado.

5 Y Jeremías dio órdenes a Baruc diciendo: Estoy detenido; no puedo entrar en la casa del SEÑOR.

6 Ve, pues, y lee en el rollo que has escrito al dictado mío, las palabras del SEÑOR a oídos del pueblo, en la casa del SEÑOR un día de ayuno. Y también las leerás a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

7 Tal vez su súplica llegue delante del SEÑOR, y todos se vuelvan de su mal camino, porque grande es la ira y el furor que el SEÑOR ha pronunciado contra este pueblo.

8 Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hizo conforme a todo lo que el profeta Jeremías le había mandado, y leyó en el libro las palabras del SEÑOR, en la casa del SEÑOR.

9 Y en el año quinto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, proclamaron ayuno delante del SEÑOR a todo el pueblo en Jerusalén y a todo el pueblo que vino de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.

10 Y Baruc leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías a oídos de todo el pueblo en la casa del SEÑOR, en la cámara de Gemarías, hijo del escriba Safán, en el atrio superior, a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la casa del SEÑOR.

11 Al oír Micaías, hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Safán, todas las palabras del SEÑOR que estaban en el libro,

12 descendió a la casa del rey, a la cámara del escriba. Y he aquí, estaban sentados allí todos los oficiales: el escriba Elisama, Delaía, hijo de Semaías, Elnatán, hijo de Acbor, Gemarías, hijo de Safán, Sedequías, hijo de Ananías, y todos los demás oficiales.

13 Y Micaías les declaró todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó en el libro a oídos del pueblo.

14 Entonces todos los oficiales enviaron a Jehudí, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusi, a decir a Baruc: Toma en tu mano el rollo en el que has leído a oídos del pueblo y ven. Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, tomó el rollo en su mano y fue a ellos.

15 Y le dijeron: Siéntate ahora, y léenoslo. Y Baruc se lo leyó.

16 Y sucedió que cuando oyeron todas las palabras, se miraron unos a otros atemorizados, y dijeron a Baruc: Ciertamente haremos saber al rey todas estas palabras.

17 Y preguntaron a Baruc, diciendo: Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste todas estas palabras. ¿Fue al dictado suyo?

18 Baruc les respondió: El me dictó todas estas palabras y yo las escribí con tinta en el libro.

19 Entonces los oficiales dijeron a Baruc: Ve, escóndete, tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa donde estáis.

20 Y entraron al atrio donde estaba el rey, después de haber depositado el rollo en la cámara del escriba Elisama, y contaron a oídos del rey todas las palabras.

21 Entonces envió el rey a Jehudí a buscar el rollo, y éste lo tomó de la cámara del escriba Elisama. Y Jehudí lo leyó al rey y a todos los oficiales que estaban junto al rey.

22 Y el rey estaba sentado en la casa de invierno (era el mes noveno), y había un brasero encendido delante de él.

23 Y sucedía que después que Jehudí había leído tres o cuatro columnas, el rey lo cortaba con el cuchillo del escriba y lo echaba al fuego que estaba en el brasero, hasta terminar con todo el rollo en el fuego que estaba en el brasero.

24 Ni el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestiduras.

25 Y aunque Elnatán y Delaía y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemara el rollo, él no les hizo caso.

26 Luego el rey ordenó a Jerameel, hijo del rey, a Seraías, hijo de Azriel, y a Selemías, hijo de Abdeel, prender al escriba Baruc y al profeta Jeremías, pero el SEÑOR los escondió.

27 Entonces vino la palabra del SEÑOR a Jeremías, después que el rey había quemado el rollo y las palabras que Baruc había escrito al dictado de Jeremías, diciendo:

28 Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que antes había en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.

29 Y a Joacim, rey de Judá, dirás: "Así dice el SEÑOR: 'Tú has quemado este rollo, diciendo: "¿Por qué has escrito en él que ciertamente vendrá el rey de Babilonia y destruirá esta tierra, y hará desaparecer de ella a hombres y animales?'"

30 "Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR acerca de Joacim, rey de Judá: 'No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David, y su cadáver quedará tirado al calor del día y a la escarcha de la noche.

31 'Lo castigaré, a él, a su descendencia y a sus siervos por su iniquidad, y traeré sobre ellos, sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén y sobre los hombres de Judá toda la calamidad que les he anunciado, sin que ellos escucharan.'"

32 Entonces Jeremías tomó otro rollo y se lo dio al escriba Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y éste escribió en él al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que Joacim, rey de Judá, había quemado en el fuego, y aun se le añadieron muchas palabras semejantes.

1 It happened in the fourth year of Yehoiakim the son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, that this word came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, saying,

2 Take a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Yisra'el, and against Yehudah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Yoshiyahu, even to this day.

3 It may be that the house of Yehudah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4 Then Yirmeyahu called Barukh the son of Neriyah; and Barukh wrote from the mouth of Yirmeyahu all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

5 Yirmeyahu commanded Barukh, saying, I am shut up; I can't go into the house of the LORD:

6 therefore go you, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house on the fast-day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Yehudah who come out of their cities.

7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that the LORD has pronounced against this people.

8 Barukh the son of Neriyah did according to all that Yirmeyahu the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.

9 Now it happened in the fifth year of Yehoiakim the son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Yerushalayim, and all the people who came from the cities of Yehudah to Yerushalayim, proclaimed a fast before the LORD.

10 Then read Barukh in the book the words of Yirmeyahu in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemaryah the son of Shafan, the Sofer, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.

11 When Mikhayahu the son of Gemaryah, the son of Shafan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

12 he went down into the king's house, into the Sofer's chamber: and, behold, all the princes were sitting there, [to wit], Elishama the Sofer, and Delayah the son of Shemayah, and Elnatan the son of `Akhbor, and Gemaryah the son of Shafan, and Tzidkiyahu the son of Hananyah, and all the princes.

13 Then Mikhayahu declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Barukh read the book in the ears of the people.

14 Therefore all the princes sent Yehudi the son of Netanyah, the son of Shelemyahu, the son of Kushi, to Barukh, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Barukh the son of Neriyah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.

15 They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Barukh read it in their ears.

16 Now it happened, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Barukh, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

17 They asked Barukh, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth?

18 Then Barukh answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 Then said the princes to Barukh, Go, hide you, you and Yirmeyahu; and let no man know where you are.

20 They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the Sofer; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

21 So the king sent Yehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the Sofer. Yehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.

22 Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month: and [there was a fire in] the brazier burning before him.

23 It happened, when Yehudi had read three or four leaves, that [the king] cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

24 They were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

25 Moreover Elnatan and Delayah and Gemaryah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them.

26 The king commanded Yerachme'el the king's son, and Serayah the son of `Azri'el, and Shelemyahu the son of `Avde'el, to take Barukh the Sofer and Yirmeyahu the prophet; but the LORD hid them.

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Yirmeyahu, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Barukh wrote at the mouth of Yirmeyahu, saying,

28 Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Yehoiakim the king of Yehudah has burned.

29 Concerning Yehoiakim king of Yehudah you shall say, Thus says the LORD: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Bavel shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal?

30 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Yehoiakim king of Yehudah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

31 I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and on the men of Yehudah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn't listen.

32 Then took Yirmeyahu another scroll, and gave it to Barukh the Sofer, the son of Neriyah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Yirmeyahu all the words of the book which Yehoiakim king of Yehudah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides to them many like words.
