Hebrew Names Version HNV
The Message Bible MSG
1 It happened when Yerushalayim was taken, (in the ninth year of Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah, in the tenth month, came Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel and all his army against Yerushalayim, and besieged it;
1
In the ninth year and tenth month of Zedekiah king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came with his entire army and laid siege to Jerusalem.
2 in the eleventh year of Tzidkiyahu, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city,)
2
In the eleventh year and fourth month, on the ninth day of Zedekiah's reign, they broke through into the city.
3 that all the princes of the king of Bavel came in, and sat in the middle gate, [to wit], Nergal-Sar'etzer, Samgar-Nevo, Sarsekhim, Rav-Saris, Nergal-Sar'etzer, Rav-Mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Bavel.
3
All the officers of the king of Babylon came and set themselves up as a ruling council from the Middle Gate: Nergal-sharezer of Simmagar, Nebushazban the Rabsaris, Nergal-sharezer the Rabmag, along with all the other officials of the king of Babylon.
4 It happened that, when Tzidkiyahu the king of Yehudah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the `Aravah.
4
When Zedekiah king of Judah and his remaining soldiers saw this, they ran for their lives. They slipped out at night on a path in the king's garden through the gate between two walls and headed for the wilderness, toward the Jordan Valley.
5 But the army of the Kasdim pursued after them, and overtook Tzidkiyahu in the plains of Yericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel to Rivlah in the land of Hamat; and he gave judgment on him.
5
The Babylonian army chased them and caught Zedekiah in the wilderness of Jericho. They seized him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the country of Hamath. Nebuchadnezzar decided his fate.
6 Then the king of Bavel killed the sons of Tzidkiyahu in Rivlah before his eyes: also the king of Bavel killed all the nobles of Yehudah.
6
The king of Babylon killed all the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah right before his eyes and then killed all the nobles of Judah.
7 Moreover he put out Tzidkiyahu's eyes, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Bavel.
7
After Zedekiah had seen the slaughter, Nebuchadnezzar blinded him, chained him up, and then took him off to Babylon.
8 The Kasdim burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Yerushalayim.
8
Meanwhile, the Babylonians burned down the royal palace, the Temple, and all the homes of the people. They leveled the walls of Jerusalem.
9 Then Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Bavel the residue of the people who remained in the city, the deserters also who fell away to him, and the residue of the people who remained.
9
Nebuzaradan, commander of the king's bodyguard, rounded up everyone left in the city, along with those who had surrendered to him, and herded them off to exile in Babylon.
10 But Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Yehudah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
10
He didn't bother taking the few poor people who had nothing. He left them in the land of Judah to eke out a living as best they could in the vineyards and fields.
11 Now Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel gave charge concerning Yirmeyahu to Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard, saying,
11
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave Nebuzaradan captain of the king's bodyguard special orders regarding Jeremiah:
12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do to him even as he shall tell you.
12
"Look out for him. Make sure nothing bad happens to him. Give him anything he wants."
13 So Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard sent, and Nevushazban, Rav-Saris, and Nergal-Sar'etzer, Rav-Mag, and all the chief officers of the king of Bavel;
13
So Nebuzaradan, chief of the king's bodyguard, along with Nebushazban the Rabsaris, Nergal-sharezer the Rabmag, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon,
14 they sent, and took Yirmeyahu out of the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan, that he should carry him home: so he lived among the people.
14
sent for Jeremiah, taking him from the courtyard of the royal guards and putting him under the care of Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to be taken home. And so he was able to live with the people.
15 Now the word of the LORD came to Yirmeyahu, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying,
15
Earlier, while Jeremiah was still in custody in the courtyard of the royal guards, God's Message came to him:
16 Go, and speak to `Eved-Melekh the Kushite, saying, Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Yisra'el: Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before you in that day.
16
"Go and speak with Ebed-melek the Ethiopian. Tell him, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel, says, Listen carefully: I will do exactly what I said I would do to this city - bad news, not good news. When it happens, you will be there to see it.
17 But I will deliver you in that day, says the LORD; and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid.
17
But I'll deliver you on that doomsday. You won't be handed over to those men whom you have good reason to fear.
18 For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be for a prey to you; because you have put your trust in me, says the LORD.
18
Yes, I'll most certainly save you. You won't be killed. You'll walk out of there safe and sound because you trusted me.'" God's Decree.
