Jeremiah 7

New International Version NIV

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

2 “Stand at the gate of the LORD’s house and there proclaim this message: “ ‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the LORD.

3 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place.

4 Do not trust in deceptive words and say, “This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD!”

5 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,

6 if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm,

7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.

8 But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.

9 “ ‘Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known,

10 and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe”—safe to do all these detestable things?

11 Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the LORD.

12 “ ‘Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer.

14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to you and your ancestors.

15 I will thrust you from my presence, just as I did all your fellow Israelites, the people of Ephraim.’

16 “So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you.

17 Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger.

19 But am I the one they are provoking? declares the LORD. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?

20 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: My anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place—on man and beast, on the trees of the field and on the crops of your land—and it will burn and not be quenched.

21 “ ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves!

22 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices,

23 but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.

24 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.

25 From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again I sent you my servants the prophets.

26 But they did not listen to me or pay attention. They were stiff-necked and did more evil than their ancestors.’

27 “When you tell them all this, they will not listen to you; when you call to them, they will not answer.

28 Therefore say to them, ‘This is the nation that has not obeyed the LORD its God or responded to correction. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips.

29 “ ‘Cut off your hair and throw it away; take up a lament on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and abandoned this generation that is under his wrath.

30 “ ‘The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the LORD. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it.

31 They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind.

32 So beware, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer call it Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter, for they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.

33 Then the carcasses of this people will become food for the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away.

34 I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, for the land will become desolate.

1 Esta es la palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte del SEÑOR:

2 «Párate a la entrada de la casa del SEÑOR, y desde allí proclama este mensaje: ¡Escuchen la palabra del SEÑOR, todos ustedes, habitantes de Judá que entran por estas puertas para adorar al SEÑOR!

3 Así dice el SEÑORTodopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: “Enmienden su conducta y sus acciones, y yo los dejaré seguir viviendo en este país.

4 No confíen en esas palabras engañosas que repiten: ‘¡Este es el templo del SEÑOR, el templo del SEÑOR, el templo del SEÑOR!’

5 Si en verdad enmiendan su conducta y sus acciones, si en verdad practican la justicia los unos con los otros,

6 si no oprimen al extranjero ni al huérfano ni a la viuda, si no derraman sangre inocente en este lugar, ni siguen a otros dioses para su propio mal,

7 entonces los dejaré seguir viviendo en este país, en la tierra que di a sus antepasados para siempre.

8 »”¡Pero ustedes confían en palabras engañosas, que no tienen validez alguna!

9 Roban, matan, cometen adulterio, juran en falso, queman incienso a Baal, siguen a otros dioses que jamás conocieron,

10 ¡y vienen y se presentan ante mí en esta casa que lleva mi nombre, y dicen: ‘Estamos a salvo’, para luego seguir cometiendo todas estas abominaciones!

11 ¿Creen acaso que esta casa que lleva mi nombre es una cueva de ladrones? ¡Pero si yo mismo lo he visto! —afirma el SEÑOR—.

12 »”Vayan ahora a mi santuario en Siló, donde al principio hice habitar mi nombre, y vean lo que hice con él por culpa de la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.

13 Y ahora, puesto que ustedes han hecho todas estas cosas —afirma el SEÑOR—, y puesto que una y otra vez les he hablado y no me han querido escuchar, y puesto que los he llamado y no me han respondido,

14 lo mismo que hice con Siló haré con esta casa, que lleva mi nombre y en la que ustedes confían, y con el lugar que les di a ustedes y a sus antepasados.

15 Los echaré de mi presencia, así como eché a todos sus hermanos, a toda la descendencia de Efraín”.

16 »Pero en cuanto a ti, Jeremías, no intercedas por este pueblo. No me ruegues ni me supliques por ellos. No me insistas, porque no te escucharé.

17 ¿Acaso no ves lo que hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?

18 Los niños juntan la leña, los padres encienden el fuego, y las mujeres hacen la masa para cocer tortas y ofrecérselas a la “reina del cielo”. Además, para ofenderme derraman libaciones a otros dioses.

19 Pero no es a mí al que ofenden —afirma el SEÑOR—. Más bien se ofenden a sí mismos, para su propia vergüenza.

20 »Por eso, así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: “Descargaré mi enojo y mi furor sobre este lugar: sobre los hombres y los animales, sobre los árboles del campo y los frutos de la tierra, ¡y arderá mi enojo y no se apagará!”

21 »Así dice el SEÑOR Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: “¡Junten sus holocaustos con sus sacrificios, y cómanse la carne!

22 En verdad, cuando yo saqué de Egipto a sus antepasados, no les dije nada ni les ordené nada acerca de holocaustos y sacrificios.

23 Lo que sí les ordené fue lo siguiente: ‘Obedézcanme. Así yo seré su Dios, y ustedes serán mi pueblo. Condúzcanse conforme a todo lo que yo les ordene, a fin de que les vaya bien’.

24 Pero ellos no me obedecieron ni me prestaron atención, sino que siguieron los consejos de su terco y malvado corazón. Fue así como, en vez de avanzar, retrocedieron.

25 Desde el día en que sus antepasados salieron de Egipto hasta ahora, no he dejado de enviarles, día tras día, a mis servidores los profetas.

26 Con todo, no me obedecieron ni me prestaron atención, sino que se obstinaron y fueron peores que sus antepasados”.

27 »Tú les dirás todas estas cosas, pero no te escucharán. Los llamarás, pero no te responderán.

28 Entonces les dirás: “Esta es la nación que no ha obedecido la voz del SEÑOR su Dios, ni ha aceptado su corrección. La verdad ha muerto, ha sido arrancada de su boca.

29 »”Córtate la cabellera, y tírala;eleva tu lamento en las lomas desoladas,porque el SEÑOR ha rechazado y abandonadoa la generación que provocó su ira.

30 »”La gente de Judá ha hecho el mal que yo detesto —afirma el SEÑOR—. Han profanado la casa que lleva mi nombre al instalar allí sus ídolos abominables.

31 Además, construyeron el santuario pagano de Tofet, en el valle de Ben Hinón, para quemar a sus hijos y a sus hijas en el fuego, cosa que jamás ordené ni me pasó siquiera por la mente.

32 Por eso llegarán días —afirma el SEÑOR—, cuando ya no lo llamarán más Tofet ni Valle de Ben Hinón, sino Valle de la Matanza; y a falta de otro lugar, en Tofet enterrarán a sus muertos.

33 Los cadáveres de este pueblo servirán de comida a las aves del cielo y a los animales de la tierra, y no habrá quien los espante.

34 Haré que en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén se apaguen los gritos de alegría, las voces de júbilo, y los cánticos del novio y de la novia, porque el país se convertirá en desolación.
