Job 13

BBE 1 Truly, my eye has seen all this, word of it has come to my ear, and I have knowledge of it. NIV 1 “My eyes have seen all this, my ears have heard and understood it. BBE 2 The same things are in my mind as in yours; I am equal to you. NIV 2 What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you. BBE 3 But I would have talk with the Ruler of all, and my desire is to have an argument with God. NIV 3 But I desire to speak to the Almighty and to argue my case with God. BBE 4 But you put a false face on things; all your attempts to put things right are of no value. NIV 4 You, however, smear me with lies; you are worthless physicians, all of you! BBE 5 If only you would keep quiet, it would be a sign of wisdom! NIV 5 If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom. BBE 6 Give ear to the argument of my mouth, and take note of the words of my lips. NIV 6 Hear now my argument; listen to the pleas of my lips. BBE 7 Will you say in God's name what is not right, and put false words into his mouth? NIV 7 Will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf? Will you speak deceitfully for him? BBE 8 Will you have respect for God's person in this cause, and put yourselves forward as his supporters? NIV 8 Will you show him partiality? Will you argue the case for God? BBE 9 Will it be good for you to be searched out by him, or have you the thought that he may be guided into error like a man? NIV 9 Would it turn out well if he examined you? Could you deceive him as you might deceive a mortal? BBE 10 He will certainly put you right, if you have respect for persons in secret. NIV 10 He would surely call you to account if you secretly showed partiality. BBE 11 Will not his glory put you in fear, so that your hearts will be overcome before him? NIV 11 Would not his splendor terrify you? Would not the dread of him fall on you? BBE 12 Your wise sayings are only dust, and your strong places are only earth. NIV 12 Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay. BBE 13 Keep quiet, and let me say what is in my mind, whatever may come to me. NIV 13 “Keep silent and let me speak; then let come to me what may. BBE 14 I will take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand. NIV 14 Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands? BBE 15 Truly, he will put an end to me; I have no hope; but I will not give way in argument before him; NIV 15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face. BBE 16 And that will be my salvation, for an evil-doer would not come before him, NIV 16 Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless person would dare come before him! BBE 17 Give ear with care to my words, and keep what I say in your minds. NIV 17 Listen carefully to what I say; let my words ring in your ears. BBE 18 See now, I have put my cause in order, and I am certain that I will be seen to be right. NIV 18 Now that I have prepared my case, I know I will be vindicated. BBE 19 Is any one able to take up the argument against me? If so, I would keep quiet and give up my breath. NIV 19 Can anyone bring charges against me? If so, I will be silent and die. BBE 20 Only two things do not do to me, then I will come before your face: NIV 20 “Only grant me these two things, God, and then I will not hide from you: BBE 21 Take your hand far away from me; and let me not be overcome by fear of you. NIV 21 Withdraw your hand far from me, and stop frightening me with your terrors. BBE 22 Then at the sound of your voice I will give answer; or let me put forward my cause for you to give me an answer. NIV 22 Then summon me and I will answer, or let me speak, and you reply to me. BBE 23 What is the number of my evil-doings and my sins? give me knowledge of them. NIV 23 How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin. BBE 24 Why is your face veiled from me, as if I was numbered among your haters? NIV 24 Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy? BBE 25 Will you be hard on a leaf in flight before the wind? will you make a dry stem go more quickly on its way? NIV 25 Will you torment a windblown leaf? Will you chase after dry chaff? BBE 26 For you put bitter things on record against me, and send punishment on me for the sins of my early years; NIV 26 For you write down bitter things against me and make me reap the sins of my youth. BBE 27 And you put chains on my feet, watching all my ways, and making a limit for my steps; NIV 27 You fasten my feet in shackles; you keep close watch on all my paths by putting marks on the soles of my feet. BBE 28 Though a man comes to nothing like a bit of dead wood, or like a robe which has become food for the worm. NIV 28 “So man wastes away like something rotten, like a garment eaten by moths.
