1 Eliú responde a los amigos de Job<br />Los tres amigos de Job no quisieron responderle más porque él insistía en su inocencia.

So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2 Entonces Eliú, hijo de Baraquel el buzita, del clan de Ram, se enojó, porque Job no quería admitir que había pecado y que Dios tenía razón cuando lo castigó.

But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God.
3 También se enojó con los tres amigos de Job porque, al no lograr refutar los argumentos de Job, hacían parecer que Dios<br /> estaba equivocado.

He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him.
4 Eliú había esperado que los demás hablaran con Job porque eran mayores que él;

Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he.
5 pero cuando vio que ellos ya no tenían respuesta, habló con enojo.

But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused.
6 Eliú, hijo de Baraquel el buzita, dijo:<br />«Yo soy joven y ustedes ancianos,<br />por eso me contuve de decirles lo que pienso.

So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said: “I am young in years, and you are old; that is why I was fearful, not daring to tell you what I know.
7 Me dije: “Los que tienen más edad deben hablar<br />porque la sabiduría viene con los años”.

I thought, ‘Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’
8 Sin embargo, hay un espíritu<br /> dentro de las personas,<br />el aliento del Todopoderoso en ellas,<br />que las hace inteligentes.

But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.
9 No siempre los ancianos son sabios;<br />a veces las personas de edad no comprenden la justicia.

It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.
10 Así que, escúchenme<br />y déjenme decirles lo que pienso.

“Therefore I say: Listen to me; I too will tell you what I know.
11 »He esperado todo este tiempo<br />prestando mucha atención a sus argumentos,<br />observando cómo buscaban a tientas las palabras.

I waited while you spoke, I listened to your reasoning; while you were searching for words,
12 He escuchado,<br />pero ninguno de ustedes ha logrado refutar a Job<br />ni responder a sus argumentos.

I gave you my full attention. But not one of you has proved Job wrong; none of you has answered his arguments.
13 Y no me digan: “Él es demasiado sabio para nosotros;<br />solo Dios podrá convencerlo”.

Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not a man, refute him.’
14 Si Job hubiera estado discutiendo conmigo,<br />¡yo no le respondería con la misma lógica que ustedes!

But Job has not marshaled his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments.
15 Ustedes se sientan ahí desconcertados<br />sin nada más que decir.

“They are dismayed and have no more to say; words have failed them.
16 ¿Seguiré esperando ahora que se han quedado callados?<br />¿Permaneceré en silencio yo también?

Must I wait, now that they are silent, now that they stand there with no reply?
17 No, sino que daré mi opinión<br />y expresaré lo que pienso.

I too will have my say; I too will tell what I know.
18 Pues estoy lleno de palabras contenidas<br />y el espíritu que hay en mí me obliga a hablar.

For I am full of words, and the spirit within me compels me;
19 Soy como un barril de vino sin respiradero;<br />¡como un cuero de vino a punto de estallar!

inside I am like bottled-up wine, like new wineskins ready to burst.
20 Tengo que hablar para encontrar alivio,<br />así que déjenme dar mis respuestas.

I must speak and find relief; I must open my lips and reply.
21 No haré favoritismos<br />ni intentaré adular a nadie.

I will show no partiality, nor will I flatter anyone;
22 Pues si intentara usar la adulación,<br />pronto mi Creador me destruiría.

for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away.
