Job 33

RHE 1 Hear therefore, O Job, my speeches, and hearken to all my words. NIV 1 “But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say. RHE 2 Behold now I have opened my mouth, let my tongue speak within my jaws. NIV 2 I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue. RHE 3 My words are from my upright heart, and my lips shall speak a pure sentence. NIV 3 My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know. RHE 4 The spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life. NIV 4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. RHE 5 If thou canst, answer me, and stand up against my face. NIV 5 Answer me then, if you can; stand up and argue your case before me. RHE 6 Behold God hath made me as well as thee, and of the same clay I also was formed. NIV 6 I am the same as you in God’s sight; I too am a piece of clay. RHE 7 But yet let not my wonder terrify thee, and let not my eloquence be burdensome to thee. NIV 7 No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you. RHE 8 Now thou hast said in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words: NIV 8 “But you have said in my hearing— I heard the very words— RHE 9 I am clean, and without sin: I am unspotted, and there is no iniquity in me. NIV 9 ‘I am pure, I have done no wrong; I am clean and free from sin. RHE 10 Because he hath found complaints against me, therefore he hath counted me for his enemy. NIV 10 Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. RHE 11 He hath put my feet in the stocks, he hath observed all my paths. NIV 11 He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.’ RHE 12 Now this is the thing in which thou art not justified: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man. NIV 12 “But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal. RHE 13 Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words? NIV 13 Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words ? RHE 14 God speaketh once, and repeateth not the selfsame thing the second time. NIV 14 For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it. RHE 15 By a dream in a vision by night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, and they are sleeping in their beds: NIV 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, RHE 16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn. NIV 16 he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, RHE 17 That he may withdraw a man from the things he is doing, and may deliver him from pride. NIV 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, RHE 18 Rescuing his soul from corruption: and his life from passing to the sword. NIV 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword. RHE 19 He rebuketh also by sorrow in the bed, and he maketh all his bones to wither. NIV 19 “Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones, RHE 20 Bread becometh abominable to him in his life, and to his soul the meat which before he desired. NIV 20 so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal. RHE 21 His flesh shall be consumed away, and his bones that were covered shall be made bare. NIV 21 Their flesh wastes away to nothing, and their bones, once hidden, now stick out. RHE 22 His soul hath drawn near to corruption, and his life to the destroyers. NIV 22 They draw near to the pit, and their life to the messengers of death. RHE 23 If there shall be an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare man’s uprightness, NIV 23 Yet if there is an angel at their side, a messenger, one out of a thousand, sent to tell them how to be upright, RHE 24 He shall have mercy on him, and shall say: Deliver him, that he may not go down to corruption: I have found wherein I may be merciful to him. NIV 24 and he is gracious to that person and says to God, ‘Spare them from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for them— RHE 25 His flesh is consumed with punishments, let him return to the days of his youth. NIV 25 let their flesh be renewed like a child’s; let them be restored as in the days of their youth’— RHE 26 He shall pray to God, and he will be gracious to him: and he shall see his face with joy, and he will render to man his justice. NIV 26 then that person can pray to God and find favor with him, they will see God’s face and shout for joy; he will restore them to full well-being. RHE 27 He shall look upon men, and shall say: I have sinned, and indeed I have offended, and I have not received what I have deserved. NIV 27 And they will go to others and say, ‘I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved. RHE 28 He hath delivered his soul from going into destruction, that it may live and see the light. NIV 28 God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’ RHE 29 Behold, all these things God worketh three times within every one. NIV 29 “God does all these things to a person— twice, even three times— RHE 30 That he may withdraw their souls from corruption, and enlighten them with the light of the living. NIV 30 to turn them back from the pit, that the light of life may shine on them. RHE 31 Attend, Job, and hearken to me, and hold thy peace, whilst I speak. NIV 31 “Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. RHE 32 But if thou hast any thing to say, answer me, speak: for I would have thee to appear just. NIV 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want to vindicate you. RHE 33 And if thou have not, hear me: hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom. NIV 33 But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”
