Job 35

GNT 1 It is not right, Job, for you to say that you are innocent in God's sight, NIV 1 Then Elihu said: GNT 3 or to ask God, "How does my sin affect you? What have I gained by not sinning?" NIV 3 Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me,and what do I gain by not sinning?’ GNT 4 I am going to answer you and your friends too. NIV 4 “I would like to reply to you and to your friends with you. GNT 5 Look at the sky! See how high the clouds are! NIV 5 Look up at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds so high above you. GNT 6 If you sin, that does no harm to God. If you do wrong many times, does that affect him? NIV 6 If you sin, how does that affect him? If your sins are many, what does that do to him? GNT 7 Do you help God by being so righteous? There is nothing God needs from you. NIV 7 If you are righteous, what do you give to him, or what does he receive from your hand? GNT 8 Others suffer from your sins, and the good you do helps them. NIV 8 Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself, and your righteousness only other people. GNT 9 When people are oppressed, they groan; they cry for someone to save them. NIV 9 “People cry out under a load of oppression; they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful. GNT 10 But they don't turn to God, their Creator, who gives them hope in their darkest hours. NIV 10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night, GNT 11 They don't turn to God, who makes us wise, wiser than any animal or bird. NIV 11 who teaches us more than he teaches the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds in the sky?’ GNT 12 They cry for help, but God doesn't answer, for they are proud and evil. NIV 12 He does not answer when people cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked. GNT 13 It is useless for them to cry out; Almighty God does not see or hear them. NIV 13 Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea; the Almighty pays no attention to it. GNT 14 Job, you say you can't see God; but wait patiently - your case is before him. NIV 14 How much less, then, will he listen when you say that you do not see him, that your case is before him and you must wait for him, GNT 15 You think that God does not punish, that he pays little attention to sin. NIV 15 and further, that his anger never punishes and he does not take the least notice of wickedness. GNT 16 It is useless for you to go on talking; it is clear you don't know what you are saying. NIV 16 So Job opens his mouth with empty talk; without knowledge he multiplies words.”
