Job 4

NIRV 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied, NIV 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied: NIRV 2 "Job, suppose someone tries to talk to you. Will that make you uneasy? I can't keep from speaking up. NIV 2 “If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can keep from speaking? NIRV 3 Look, you taught many people. You made weak hands strong. NIV 3 Think how you have instructed many, how you have strengthened feeble hands. NIRV 4 Your words helped those who had fallen down. You made shaky knees strong. NIV 4 Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees. NIRV 5 Now trouble comes to you. And you are unhappy about it. It strikes you down. And you are afraid. NIV 5 But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed. NIRV 6 Shouldn't you worship God and trust in him? Shouldn't your honest life give you hope? NIV 6 Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope? NIRV 7 "Here's something to think about. Have blameless people ever been wiped out? Have honest people ever been completely destroyed? NIV 7 “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Where were the upright ever destroyed? NIRV 8 Here's what I've observed. People gather a crop from what they plant. If they plant evil and trouble, that's what they will harvest. NIV 8 As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it. NIRV 9 The breath of God destroys them. The blast of his anger wipes them out. NIV 9 At the breath of God they perish; at the blast of his anger they are no more. NIRV 10 Powerful lions might roar and growl. But their teeth are broken. NIV 10 The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken. NIRV 11 Lions die because they don't have any food. Then their cubs are scattered. NIV 11 The lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered. NIRV 12 "A message came to me in secret. It was as quiet as a whisper. NIV 12 “A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it. NIRV 13 I had a scary dream one night. I was sound asleep. NIV 13 Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on people, NIRV 14 Fear and trembling grabbed hold of me. That made every bone in my body shake. NIV 14 fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake. NIRV 15 A spirit glided past my face. The hair on my body stood on end. NIV 15 A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end. NIRV 16 Then the spirit stopped. But I couldn't tell what it was. Something stood there in front of me. I heard a soft voice. NIV 16 It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice: NIRV 17 It said, 'Can a human being be more right than God? Can a mere man be more pure than the One who made him? NIV 17 ‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker? NIRV 18 God doesn't trust those who serve him. He even brings charges against his angels. NIV 18 If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with error, NIRV 19 So he'll certainly find fault with human beings. After all, they are made out of dust. They can be crushed more easily than a moth. NIV 19 how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth! NIRV 20 Between sunrise and sunset they are broken to pieces. Nobody even notices. They disappear forever. NIV 20 Between dawn and dusk they are broken to pieces; unnoticed, they perish forever. NIRV 21 Like a tent that falls down, they get weak. They die because they didn't follow God's wisdom.' " NIV 21 Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
