John 10:22-42

ESV 22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, MSG 22 They were celebrating Hanukkah just then in Jerusalem. It was winter. ESV 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. MSG 23 Jesus was strolling in the Temple across Solomon's Porch. ESV 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." MSG 24 The Jews, circling him, said, "How long are you going to keep us guessing? If you're the Messiah, tell us straight out." ESV 25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, MSG 25 Jesus answered, "I told you, but you don't believe. Everything I have done has been authorized by my Father, actions that speak louder than words. ESV 26 but you do not believe because you are not part of my flock. MSG 26 You don't believe because you're not my sheep. ESV 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. MSG 27 My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me. ESV 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. MSG 28 I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand. ESV 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. MSG 29 The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him. ESV 30 I and the Father are one." MSG 30 I and the Father are one heart and mind." ESV 31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. MSG 31 Again the Jews picked up rocks to throw at him. ESV 32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?" MSG 32 Jesus said, "I have made a present to you from the Father of a great many good actions. For which of these acts do you stone me?" ESV 33 The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God." MSG 33 The Jews said, "We're not stoning you for anything good you did, but for what you said - this blasphemy of calling yourself God." ESV 34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I said, you are gods'? MSG 34 Jesus said, "I'm only quoting your inspired Scriptures, where God said, 'I tell you - you are gods.' ESV 35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came--and Scripture cannot be broken-- MSG 35 If God called your ancestors 'gods' - and Scripture doesn't lie - ESV 36 o you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? MSG 36 why do you yell, 'Blasphemer! Blasphemer!' at the unique One the Father consecrated and sent into the world, just because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? ESV 37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; MSG 37 If I don't do the things my Father does, well and good; don't believe me. ESV 38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father." MSG 38 But if I am doing them, put aside for a moment what you hear me say about myself and just take the evidence of the actions that are right before your eyes. Then perhaps things will come together for you, and you'll see that not only are we doing the same thing, we are the same - Father and Son. He is in me; I am in him." ESV 39 Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. MSG 39 They tried yet again to arrest him, but he slipped through their fingers. ESV 40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. MSG 40 He went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptized, and stayed there. ESV 41 And many came to him. And they said, "John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true." MSG 41 A lot of people followed him over. They were saying, "John did no miracles, but everything he said about this man has come true." ESV 42 And many believed in him there. MSG 42 Many believed in him then and there.
