John 10

YLT 1 `Verily, verily, I say to you, He who is not entering through the door to the fold of the sheep, but is going up from another side, that one is a thief and a robber; NIV 1 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. YLT 2 and he who is entering through the door is shepherd of the sheep; NIV 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. YLT 3 to this one the doorkeeper doth open, and the sheep hear his voice, and his own sheep he doth call by name, and doth lead them forth; NIV 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. YLT 4 and when his own sheep he may put forth, before them he goeth on, and the sheep follow him, because they have known his voice; NIV 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. YLT 5 and a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they have not known the voice of strangers.' NIV 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” YLT 6 This similitude spake Jesus to them, and they knew not what the things were that he was speaking to them; NIV 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. YLT 7 Jesus said therefore again to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you -- I am the door of the sheep; NIV 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. YLT 8 all, as many as came before me, are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them; NIV 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. YLT 9 I am the door, through me if any one may come in, he shall be saved, and he shall come in, and go out, and find pasture. NIV 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. YLT 10 `The thief doth not come, except that he may steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they may have life, and may have [it] abundantly. NIV 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. YLT 11 `I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd his life layeth down for the sheep; NIV 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. YLT 12 and the hireling, and not being a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, doth behold the wolf coming, and doth leave the sheep, and doth flee; and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep; NIV 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. YLT 13 and the hireling doth flee because he is an hireling, and is not caring for the sheep. NIV 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. YLT 14 `I am the good shepherd, and I know my [sheep], and am known by mine, NIV 14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— YLT 15 according as the Father doth know me, and I know the Father, and my life I lay down for the sheep, NIV 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. YLT 16 and other sheep I have that are not of this fold, these also it behoveth me to bring, and my voice they will hear, and there shall become one flock -- one shepherd. NIV 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. YLT 17 `Because of this doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that again I may take it; NIV 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. YLT 18 no one doth take it from me, but I lay it down of myself; authority I have to lay it down, and authority I have again to take it; this command I received from my Father.' NIV 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” YLT 19 Therefore, again, there came a division among the Jews, because of these words, NIV 19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided. YLT 20 and many of them said, `He hath a demon, and is mad, why do ye hear him?' NIV 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?” YLT 21 others said, `These sayings are not those of a demoniac; is a demon able blind men's eyes to open?' NIV 21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” YLT 22 And the dedication in Jerusalem came, and it was winter, NIV 22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, YLT 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the porch of Solomon, NIV 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. YLT 24 the Jews, therefore, came round about him, and said to him, `Till when our soul dost thou hold in suspense? if thou art the Christ, tell us freely.' NIV 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” YLT 25 Jesus answered them, `I told you, and ye do not believe; the works that I do in the name of my Father, these testify concerning me; NIV 25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, YLT 26 but ye do not believe, for ye are not of my sheep, NIV 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. YLT 27 according as I said to you: My sheep my voice do hear, and I know them, and they follow me, NIV 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. YLT 28 and life age-during I give to them, and they shall not perish -- to the age, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand; NIV 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. YLT 29 my Father, who hath given to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to pluck out of the hand of my Father; NIV 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. YLT 30 I and the Father are one.' NIV 30 I and the Father are one.” YLT 31 Therefore, again, did the Jews take up stones that they may stone him; NIV 31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, YLT 32 Jesus answered them, `Many good works did I shew you from my Father; because of which work of them do ye stone me?' NIV 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” YLT 33 The Jews answered him, saying, `For a good work we do not stone thee, but for evil speaking, and because thou, being a man, dost make thyself God.' NIV 33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.” YLT 34 Jesus answered them, `Is it not having been written in your law: I said, ye are gods? NIV 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” ’? YLT 35 if them he did call gods unto whom the word of God came, (and the Writing is not able to be broken,) NIV 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— YLT 36 of him whom the Father did sanctify, and send to the world, do ye say -- Thou speakest evil, because I said, Son of God I am? NIV 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? YLT 37 if I do not the works of my Father, do not believe me; NIV 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. YLT 38 and if I do, even if me ye may not believe, the works believe, that ye may know and may believe that in me [is] the Father, and I in Him.' NIV 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” YLT 39 Therefore were they seeking again to seize him, and he went forth out of their hand, NIV 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. YLT 40 and went away again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John was at first baptizing, and remained there, NIV 40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, YLT 41 and many came unto him, and said -- `John, indeed, did no sign, and all things, as many as John said about this one were true;' NIV 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.” YLT 42 and many did believe in him there. NIV 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
