John 11:7-17

NRSA 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." NIV 7 and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” NRSA 8 The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and are you going there again?" NIV 8 “But Rabbi,” they said, “a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back?” NRSA 9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day do not stumble, because they see the light of this world. NIV 9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light. NRSA 10 But those who walk at night stumble, because the light is not in them." NIV 10 It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.” NRSA 11 After saying this, he told them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him." NIV 11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” NRSA 12 The disciples said to him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be all right." NIV 12 His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” NRSA 13 Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was referring merely to sleep. NIV 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. NRSA 14 Then Jesus told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead. NIV 14 So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, NRSA 15 For your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him." NIV 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” NRSA 16 Thomas, who was called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him." NIV 16 Then Thomas (also known as Didymus ) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” NRSA 17 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. NIV 17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.
