The Message Bible MSG
King James Version KJV
1 Jesus said these things. Then, raising his eyes in prayer, he said: Father, it's time. Display the bright splendor of your Son So the Son in turn may show your bright splendor.
1
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said,Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 You put him in charge of everything human So he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge.
2
As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, The one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.
3
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I glorified you on earth By completing down to the last detail What you assigned me to do.
4
I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, Father, glorify me with your very own splendor, The very splendor I had in your presence Before there was a world.
5
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I spelled out your character in detail To the men and women you gave me. They were yours in the first place; Then you gave them to me, And they have now done what you said.
6
I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
7 They know now, beyond the shadow of a doubt, That everything you gave me is firsthand from you,
7
Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
8 For the message you gave me, I gave them; And they took it, and were convinced That I came from you. They believed that you sent me.
8
For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them. I'm not praying for the God-rejecting world But for those you gave me, For they are yours by right.
9
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 Everything mine is yours, and yours mine, And my life is on display in them.
10
And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 For I'm no longer going to be visible in the world; They'll continue in the world While I return to you. Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life That you conferred as a gift through me, So they can be one heart and mind
11
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 As we are one heart and mind. As long as I was with them, I guarded them In the pursuit of the life you gave through me; I even posted a night watch. And not one of them got away, Except for the rebel bent on destruction (the exception that proved the rule of Scripture).
12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 Now I'm returning to you. I'm saying these things in the world's hearing So my people can experience My joy completed in them.
13
And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I gave them your word; The godless world hated them because of it, Because they didn't join the world's ways,
14
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 Just as I didn't join the world's ways. I'm not asking that you take them out of the world But that you guard them from the Evil One.
15
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are no more defined by the world Than I am defined by the world.
16
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Make them holy - consecrated - with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth.
17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.
18
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 I'm consecrating myself for their sakes So they'll be truth-consecrated in their mission.
19
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 I'm praying not only for them But also for those who will believe in me Because of them and their witness about me.
20
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind - Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, So they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
21
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 The same glory you gave me, I gave them, So they'll be as unified and together as we are -
22
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them and you in me. Then they'll be mature in this oneness, And give the godless world evidence That you've sent me and loved them In the same way you've loved me.
23
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I want those you gave me To be with me, right where I am, So they can see my glory, the splendor you gave me, Having loved me Long before there ever was a world.
24
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 Righteous Father, the world has never known you, But I have known you, and these disciples know That you sent me on this mission.
25
O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26 I have made your very being known to them - Who you are and what you do - And continue to make it known, So that your love for me Might be in them Exactly as I am in them.
26
And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
