1 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: No temas ni te acobardes. Toma contigo a todo el pueblo de guerra y levántate, sube a Hai; mira, he entregado en tu mano al rey de Hai, su pueblo, su ciudad y su tierra.

Now the Lord said to Joshua: "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.
2 Harás con Hai y con su rey lo mismo que hiciste con Jericó y con su rey; tomaréis para vosotros como botín solamente los despojos y el ganado. Prepara una emboscada a la ciudad detrás de ella.

And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it."
3 Y Josué se levantó con todo el pueblo de guerra para subir a Hai. Escogió Josué treinta mil hombres, valientes guerreros, los envió de noche,

So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valor and sent them away by night.
4 y les dio órdenes, diciendo: Mirad, vais a poner emboscada a la ciudad por detrás de ella. No os alejéis mucho de la ciudad, sino estad todos alerta.

And he commanded them, saying: "Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
5 Y yo y todo el pueblo que me acompaña nos acercaremos a la ciudad. Y sucederá que cuando ellos salgan a nuestro encuentro como la primera vez, nosotros huiremos delante de ellos,

Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city; and it will come about, when they come out against us as at the first, that we shall flee before them.
6 y ellos saldrán tras nosotros hasta que los hayamos alejado de la ciudad, porque dirán: "Huyen ante nosotros como la primera vez." Huiremos, pues, ante ellos.

For they will come out after us till we have drawn them from the city, for they will say, 'They are fleeing before us as at the first.' Therefore we will flee before them.
7 Vosotros saldréis de la emboscada y os apoderaréis de la ciudad, porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios la entregará en vuestras manos.

Then you shall rise from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 Y será que cuando hayáis tomado la ciudad, le prenderéis fuego. Lo haréis conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR. Mirad que yo os lo he mandado.

And it will be, when you have taken the city, that you shall set the city on fire. According to the commandment of the Lord you shall do. See, I have commanded you."
9 Josué los envió, y fueron al lugar de la emboscada y se quedaron entre Betel y Hai, al occidente de Hai; pero Josué pasó la noche entre el pueblo.

Joshua therefore sent them out; and they went to lie in ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 Y se levantó Josué muy de mañana, pasó revista al pueblo y subió con los ancianos de Israel frente al pueblo de Hai.

Then Joshua rose up early in the morning and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11 Entonces todos los hombres de guerra que estaban con él subieron y se acercaron, y llegaron frente a la ciudad, y acamparon al lado norte de Hai. Y había un valle entre él y Hai.

And all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near; and they came before the city and camped on the north side of Ai. Now a valley lay between them and Ai.
12 Tomó unos cinco mil hombres y los puso en emboscada entre Betel y Hai, al occidente de la ciudad.

So he took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 Y apostaron al pueblo: todo el ejército que estaba al norte de la ciudad, y su retaguardia que estaba al occidente de la ciudad. Y Josué pasó aquella noche en medio del valle.

And when they had set the people, all the army that was on the north of the city, and its rear guard on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 Y aconteció que al ver esto el rey de Hai, los hombres de la ciudad se apresuraron, se levantaron temprano y salieron para enfrentarse a Israel en batalla, él y todo su pueblo, en el lugar señalado frente a la llanura del desierto; pero no sabía que había una emboscada contra él por detrás de la ciudad.

Now it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose early and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at an appointed place before the plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15 Y Josué y todo Israel se fingieron vencidos delante de ellos, y huyeron camino del desierto.

And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 Y todo el pueblo que estaba en la ciudad fue llamado para perseguirlos, y persiguieron a Josué, y se alejaron de la ciudad.

So all the people who were in Ai were called together to pursue them. And they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.
17 No quedó hombre en Hai o Betel que no saliera tras Israel, y dejaron la ciudad sin protección por perseguir a Israel.

There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel. So they left the city open and pursued Israel.
18 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Extiende la jabalina que está en tu mano hacia Hai, porque la entregaré en tu mano. Y extendió Josué hacia la ciudad la jabalina que estaba en su mano.

Then the Lord said to Joshua, "Stretch out the spear that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." And Joshua stretched out the spear that was in his hand toward the city.
19 Y los que estaban emboscados se levantaron rápidamente de su lugar, y corrieron cuando él extendió su mano, entraron en la ciudad y se apoderaron de ella, y se apresuraron a prender fuego a la ciudad.

So those in ambush arose quickly out of their place; they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and they entered the city and took it, and hurried to set the city on fire.
20 Cuando los hombres de Hai se volvieron y miraron, he aquí, el humo de la ciudad subía al cielo, y no tenían lugar adónde huir, ni por un lado ni por otro, porque el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto se volvió contra sus perseguidores.

And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended to heaven. So they had no power to flee this way or that way, and the people who had fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
21 Al ver Josué y todo Israel que los emboscados habían tomado la ciudad y que el humo de la ciudad subía, se volvieron y mataron a los hombres de Hai.

Now when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned back and struck down the men of Ai.
22 Y los otros salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro así que los de Hai quedaron en medio de Israel, unos por un lado y otros por el otro; y los mataron hasta no quedar de ellos sobreviviente ni fugitivo.

Then the others came out of the city against them; so they were caught in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side. And they struck them down, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 Pero tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y lo trajeron a Josué.

But the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 Y sucedió que cuando Israel acabó de matar a todos los habitantes de Hai en el campo y en el desierto, adonde ellos los habían perseguido y todos habían caído a filo de espada hasta ser exterminados, todo Israel volvió a Hai y la hirieron a filo de espada.

And it came to pass when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they pursued them, and when they all had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
25 Y todos los que cayeron aquel día, tanto hombres como mujeres, fueron doce mil; todo el pueblo de Hai.

So it was that all who fell that day, both men and women, were twelve thousand--all the people of Ai.
26 Josué no retiró su mano con la cual tenía extendida la jabalina, hasta que hubo destruido por completo a todos los habitantes de Hai.

For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Sólo el ganado y los despojos de aquella ciudad tomó para sí Israel como botín, conforme a la palabra que el SEÑOR había ordenado a Josué.

Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took as booty for themselves, according to the word of the Lord which He had commanded Joshua.
28 Y quemó Josué a Hai y la convirtió en un montón de ruinas para siempre, en una desolación hasta el día de hoy.

So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation to this day.
29 Y colgó al rey de Hai en un árbol hasta la tarde; y a la puesta del sol Josué dio orden que bajaran su cadáver del árbol; lo arrojaron a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras que permanece hasta el día de hoy.

And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening. And as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his corpse down from the tree, cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raise over it a great heap of stones that remains to this day.
30 Entonces edificó Josué un altar al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, en el monte Ebal,

Now Joshua built an altar to the Lord God of Israel in Mount Ebal,
31 tal como Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, había ordenado a los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, un altar de piedras sin labrar, sobre las cuales nadie había alzado herramienta de hierro; y sobre él ofrecieron holocaustos al SEÑOR, y sacrificaron ofrendas de paz.

as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: "an altar of whole stones over which no man has wielded an iron tool." And they offered on it burnt offerings to the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 Y escribió allí, sobre las piedras, una copia de la ley que Moisés había escrito, en presencia de los hijos de Israel.

And there, in the presence of the children of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written.
33 Todo Israel, con sus ancianos, oficiales y jueces, estaba de pie a ambos lados del arca delante de los sacerdotes levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto del SEÑOR, tanto el forastero como el nativo. La mitad de ellos estaba frente al monte Gerizim, y la otra mitad frente al monte Ebal, tal como Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, había ordenado la primera vez, para que bendijeran al pueblo de Israel.

Then all Israel, with their elders and officers and judges, stood on either side of the ark before the priests, the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the stranger as well as he who was born among them. Half of them were in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
34 Después Josué leyó todas las palabras de la ley, la bendición y la maldición, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley.

And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.
35 No hubo ni una palabra de todo lo que había ordenado Moisés que Josué no leyera delante de toda la asamblea de Israel, incluyendo las mujeres, los niños y los forasteros que vivían entre ellos.

There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the strangers who were living among them.
