Judges 1:20-30

KJV 20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak. NIV 20 As Moses had promised, Hebron was given to Caleb, who drove from it the three sons of Anak. KJV 21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day. NIV 21 The Benjamites, however, did not drive out the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the Benjamites. KJV 22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them. NIV 22 Now the tribes of Joseph attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them. KJV 23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.) NIV 23 When they sent men to spy out Bethel (formerly called Luz), KJV 24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy. NIV 24 the spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, “Show us how to get into the city and we will see that you are treated well.” KJV 25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family. NIV 25 So he showed them, and they put the city to the sword but spared the man and his whole family. KJV 26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day. NIV 26 He then went to the land of the Hittites, where he built a city and called it Luz, which is its name to this day. KJV 27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. NIV 27 But Manasseh did not drive out the people of Beth Shan or Taanach or Dor or Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements, for the Canaanites were determined to live in that land. KJV 28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. NIV 28 When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor but never drove them out completely. KJV 29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. NIV 29 Nor did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, but the Canaanites continued to live there among them. KJV 30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries. NIV 30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the Canaanites living in Kitron or Nahalol, so these Canaanites lived among them, but Zebulun did subject them to forced labor.
