I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the LORD’s wrath.
2 Ele me impeliu e me fez andar na escuridão,e não na luz;

He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light;
3 sim, ele voltou sua mão contra mimvez após vez, o tempo todo.

indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.
4 Fez que a minha pele e a minha carne envelhecesseme quebrou os meus ossos.

He has made my skin and my flesh grow old and has broken my bones.
5 Ele me sitiou e me cercoude amargura e de pesar.

He has besieged me and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
6 Fez-me habitar na escuridãocomo os que há muito morreram.

He has made me dwell in darkness like those long dead.
7 Cercou-me de muros, e não posso escapar;atou-me a pesadas correntes.

He has walled me in so I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains.
8 Mesmo quando chamo ou grito por socorro,ele rejeita a minha oração.

Even when I call out or cry for help, he shuts out my prayer.
9 Ele impediu o meu caminho com blocos de pedra;e fez tortuosas as minhas sendas.

He has barred my way with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.
10 Como um urso à espreita,como um leão escondido,

Like a bear lying in wait, like a lion in hiding,
11 arrancou-me do caminho e despedaçou-me,deixando-me abandonado.

he dragged me from the path and mangled me and left me without help.
12 Preparou o seu arcoe me fez alvo de suas flechas.

He drew his bow and made me the target for his arrows.
13 Atingiu o meu coraçãocom flechas de sua aljava.

He pierced my heart with arrows from his quiver.
14 Tornei-me objeto de riso de todo o meu povo;nas suas canções eles zombam de mim o tempo todo.

I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long.
15 Fez-me comer ervas amargase fartou-me de fel.

He has filled me with bitter herbs and given me gall to drink.
16 Quebrou os meus dentes com pedras;e pisoteou-me no pó.

He has broken my teeth with gravel; he has trampled me in the dust.
17 Tirou-me a paz;esqueci-me o que é prosperidade.

I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18 Por isso, digo: “Meu esplendor já se foi,bem como tudo o que eu esperava do SENHOR”.

So I say, “My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the LORD.”
19 Lembro-me da minha aflição e do meu delírio,da minha amargura e do meu pesar.

I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
20 Lembro-me bem disso tudo,e a minha alma desfalece dentro de mim.

I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.
21 Todavia, lembro-me tambémdo que pode me dar esperança:

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
22 Graças ao grande amor do SENHOR é que não somos consumidos,pois as suas misericórdias são inesgotáveis.

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 Renovam-se cada manhã;grande é a sua fidelidade!

They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 Digo a mim mesmo: A minha porção é o SENHOR;portanto, nele porei a minha esperança.

I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
25 O SENHOR é bom para com aqueles cuja esperança está nele,para com aqueles que o buscam;

The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
26 é bom esperar tranquilopela salvação do SENHOR.

it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
27 É bom que o homem suporte o jugoenquanto é jovem.

It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young.
28 Leve-o sozinho e em silêncio,porque o SENHOR o pôs sobre ele.

Let him sit alone in silence, for the LORD has laid it on him.
29 Ponha o seu rosto no pó;talvez ainda haja esperança.

Let him bury his face in the dust— there may yet be hope.
30 Ofereça o rosto a quem o quer ferir,e engula a desonra.

Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace.
31 Porque o Senhornão o desprezará para sempre.

For no one is cast off by the Lord forever.
32 Embora ele traga tristeza, mostrará compaixão,tão grande é o seu amor infalível.

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.
33 Porque não é do seu agrado trazer afliçãoe tristeza aos filhos dos homens,

For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.
34 esmagar com os péstodos os prisioneiros da terra,

To crush underfoot all prisoners in the land,
35 negar a alguém os seus direitos,enfrentando o Altíssimo,

to deny people their rights before the Most High,
36 impedir a alguém o acesso à justiça;não veria o Senhor tais coisas?

to deprive them of justice— would not the Lord see such things?
37 Quem poderá falar e fazer acontecer,se o Senhor não o tiver decretado?

Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it?
38 Não é da boca do Altíssimo que vêmtanto as desgraças como as bênçãos?

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?
39 Como pode um homem reclamarquando é punido por seus pecados?

Why should the living complain when punished for their sins?
40 Examinemos e coloquemos à prova os nossos caminhose depois voltemos ao SENHOR.

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.
41 Levantemos o coração e as mãospara Deus, que está nos céus, e digamos:

Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven, and say:
42 “Pecamos e nos rebelamos,e tu não nos perdoaste.
42
“We have sinned and rebelled and you have not forgiven.
43 “Tu te cobriste de ira e nos perseguiste,massacraste-nos sem piedade.
43
“You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us; you have slain without pity.
44 Tu te escondeste atrás de uma nuvempara que nenhuma oração chegasse a ti.
44
You have covered yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can get through.
45 Tu nos tornaste escóriae refugo entre as nações.
45
You have made us scum and refuse among the nations.
46 “Todos os nossos inimigosescancaram a boca contra nós.

“All our enemies have opened their mouths wide against us.
47 Sofremos terror e ciladas,ruína e destruição”.
47
We have suffered terror and pitfalls, ruin and destruction.”
48 Rios de lágrimas correm dos meus olhosporque o meu povo foi destruído.

Streams of tears flow from my eyes because my people are destroyed.
49 Meus olhos choram sem parar,sem nenhum descanso,

My eyes will flow unceasingly, without relief,
50 até que o SENHOR contemple dos céuse veja.

until the LORD looks down from heaven and sees.
51 O que eu enxergo enche-me a alma de tristeza,de pena de todas as mulheres da minha cidade.

What I see brings grief to my soul because of all the women of my city.
52 Aqueles que, sem motivo, eram meus inimigoscaçaram-me como a um passarinho.

Those who were my enemies without cause hunted me like a bird.
53 Procuraram fazer minha vida acabar na covae me jogaram pedras;

They tried to end my life in a pit and threw stones at me;
54 as águas me encobriram a cabeça,e cheguei a pensar que o fim de tudo tinha chegado.

the waters closed over my head, and I thought I was about to perish.
55 Clamei pelo teu nome, SENHOR,das profundezas da cova.

I called on your name, LORD, from the depths of the pit.
56 Tu ouviste o meu clamor: “Não feches os teus ouvidosaos meus gritos de socorro”.

You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.”
57 Tu te aproximaste quando a ti clamei,e disseste: “Não tenha medo”.

You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.”
58 Senhor, tu assumiste a minha causa;e redimiste a minha vida.

You, Lord, took up my case; you redeemed my life.
59 Tu tens visto, SENHOR, o mal que me tem sido feito.Toma a teu cargo a minha causa!

LORD, you have seen the wrong done to me. Uphold my cause!
60 Tu viste como é terrível a vingança deles,todas as suas ciladas contra mim.

You have seen the depth of their vengeance, all their plots against me.
61 SENHOR, tu ouviste os seus insultos,todas as suas ciladas contra mim,

LORD, you have heard their insults, all their plots against me—
62 aquilo que os meus inimigos sussurrame murmuram o tempo todo contra mim.

what my enemies whisper and mutter against me all day long.
63 Olha para eles! Sentados ou em pé,zombam de mim com as suas canções.

Look at them! Sitting or standing, they mock me in their songs.
64 Dá-lhes o que merecem, SENHOR,conforme o que as suas mãos têm feito.

Pay them back what they deserve, LORD, for what their hands have done.
65 Coloca um véu sobre os seus coraçõese esteja a tua maldição sobre eles.

Put a veil over their hearts, and may your curse be on them!
66 Persegue-os com fúria e elimina-osde debaixo dos teus céus, ó SENHOR.

Pursue them in anger and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.
