Luke 18:18-43

CSB 18 A ruler asked Him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" NIV 18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” CSB 19 "Why do you call Me good?" Jesus asked him. "No one is good but One-God. NIV 19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. CSB 20 You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; honor your father and mother. " NIV 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’” CSB 21 "I have kept all these from my youth," he said. NIV 21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. CSB 22 When Jesus heard this, He told him, "You still lack one thing: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me." NIV 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” CSB 23 After he heard this, he became extremely sad, because he was very rich. NIV 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. CSB 24 Seeing that he became sad, Jesus said, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! NIV 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! CSB 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." NIV 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” CSB 26 Those who heard this asked, "Then who can be saved?" NIV 26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” CSB 27 He replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." NIV 27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” CSB 28 Then Peter said, "Look, we have left what we had and followed You." NIV 28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!” CSB 29 So He said to them, "I assure you: There is no one who has left a house, wife or brothers, parents or children because of the kingdom of God, NIV 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God CSB 30 who will not receive many times more at this time, and eternal life in the age to come." NIV 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.” CSB 31 Then He took the Twelve aside and told them, "Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. Everything that is written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. NIV 31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. CSB 32 For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and He will be mocked, insulted, spit on; NIV 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; CSB 33 and after they flog Him, they will kill Him, and He will rise on the third day." NIV 33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.” CSB 34 They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. NIV 34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about. CSB 35 As He drew near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging. NIV 35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. CSB 36 Hearing a crowd passing by, he inquired what this meant. NIV 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. CSB 37 "Jesus the Nazarene is passing by," they told him. NIV 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” CSB 38 So he called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” CSB 39 Then those in front told him to keep quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” CSB 40 Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him. When he drew near, He asked him, NIV 40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, CSB 41 "What do you want Me to do for you?" "Lord," he said, "I want to see!" NIV 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”“Lord, I want to see,” he replied. CSB 42 "Receive your sight!" Jesus told him. "Your faith has healed you." NIV 42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” CSB 43 Instantly he could see, and he began to follow Him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. NIV 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
