Luke 19:7-27

NCV 7 All the people saw this and began to complain, "Jesus is staying with a sinner!" NIV 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” NCV 8 But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "I will give half of my possessions to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times more." NIV 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” NCV 9 Jesus said to him, "Salvation has come to this house today, because this man also belongs to the family of Abraham. NIV 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. NCV 10 The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them." NIV 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” NCV 11 As the people were listening to this, Jesus told them a story because he was near Jerusalem and they thought God's kingdom would appear immediately. NIV 11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. NCV 12 He said: "A very important man went to a country far away to be made a king and then to return home. NIV 12 He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. NCV 13 So he called ten of his servants and gave a coinn to each servant. He said, 'Do business with this money until I get back.' NIV 13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’ NCV 14 But the people in the kingdom hated the man. So they sent a group to follow him and say, 'We don't want this man to be our king.' NIV 14 “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’ NCV 15 "But the man became king. When he returned home, he said, 'Call those servants who have my money so I can know how much they earned with it.' NIV 15 “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. NCV 16 "The first servant came and said, 'Sir, I earned ten coins with the one you gave me.' NIV 16 “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’ NCV 17 The king said to the servant, 'Excellent! You are a good servant. Since I can trust you with small things, I will let you rule over ten of my cities.' NIV 17 “ ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’ NCV 18 "The second servant said, 'Sir, I earned five coins with your one.' NIV 18 “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’ NCV 19 The king said to this servant, 'You can rule over five cities.' NIV 19 “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’ NCV 20 "Then another servant came in and said to the king, 'Sir, here is your coin which I wrapped in a piece of cloth and hid. NIV 20 “Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. NCV 21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You even take money that you didn't earn and gather food that you didn't plant.' NIV 21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’ NCV 22 Then the king said to the servant, 'I will condemn you by your own words, you evil servant. You knew that I am a hard man, taking money that I didn't earn and gathering food that I didn't plant. NIV 22 “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? NCV 23 Why then didn't you put my money in the bank? Then when I came back, my money would have earned some interest.' NIV 23 Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’ NCV 24 "The king said to the men who were standing by, 'Take the coin away from this servant and give it to the servant who earned ten coins.' NIV 24 “Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’ NCV 25 They said, 'But sir, that servant already has ten coins.' NIV 25 “ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ NCV 26 The king said, 'Those who have will be given more, but those who do not have anything will have everything taken away from them. NIV 26 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. NCV 27 Now where are my enemies who didn't want me to be king? Bring them here and kill them before me.'" NIV 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’ ”
