Luke 21

RHE 1 And looking on, he saw the rich men cast their gifts into the treasury. NIV 1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. RHE 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in two brass mites. NIV 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. RHE 3 And he said: Verily, I say to you that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. NIV 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. RHE 4 For all these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of God: but she of her want hath cast in all the living that she had. NIV 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” RHE 5 And some saying of the temple that it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said: NIV 5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, RHE 6 These things which you see, the days will come in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone that shall not be thrown down. NIV 6 “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” RHE 7 And they asked him, saying: Master, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when they shall begin to come to pass? NIV 7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” RHE 8 Who said: Take heed you be not seduced: for many will come in my name, saying: I am he and the time is at hand. Go ye not therefore after them. NIV 8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. RHE 9 And when you shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified. These things must first come to pass: but the end is not yet presently. NIV 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” RHE 10 Then he said to them: Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. NIV 10 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. RHE 11 And there shall be great earthquakes in divers places and pestilences and famines and terrors from heaven: and there shall be great signs. NIV 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. RHE 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, dragging you before kings and governors, for my name’s sake. NIV 12 “But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. RHE 13 And it shall happen unto you for a testimony. NIV 13 And so you will bear testimony to me. RHE 14 Lay it up therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before how you shall answer: NIV 14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. RHE 15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to resist and gainsay. NIV 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. RHE 16 And you shall be betrayed by your parents and brethren and kinsmen and friends: and some of you they will put to death. NIV 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. RHE 17 And you shall be hated by all men for my name’s sake. NIV 17 Everyone will hate you because of me. RHE 18 But a hair of your head shall not perish. NIV 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. RHE 19 In your patience you shall possess your souls. NIV 19 Stand firm, and you will win life. RHE 20 And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed about with an army, then know that the desolation thereof is at hand. NIV 20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. RHE 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains: and those who are in the midst thereof depart out: and those who are in the countries not enter into it. NIV 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. RHE 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things may be fulfilled, that are written. NIV 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. RHE 23 But woe to them that are with child and give suck in those days: for there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. NIV 23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. RHE 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captives into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles till the times of the nations be fulfilled. NIV 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. RHE 25 And there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea, and of the waves: NIV 25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. RHE 26 Men withering away for fear and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved. NIV 26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. RHE 27 And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty. NIV 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. RHE 28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is at hand. NIV 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” RHE 29 And he spoke to them a similitude. See the fig tree and all the trees: NIV 29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. RHE 30 When they now shoot forth their fruit, you know that summer is nigh; NIV 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. RHE 31 So you also, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that the kingdom of God is at hand. NIV 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. RHE 32 Amen, I say to you, this generation shall not pass away till all things be fulfilled. NIV 32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. RHE 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. NIV 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. RHE 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and the cares of this life: and that day come upon you suddenly. NIV 34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. RHE 35 For as a snare shall it come upon all that sit upon the face of the whole earth. NIV 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. RHE 36 Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the Son of man. NIV 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” RHE 37 And in the daytime, he was teaching in the temple: but at night going out, he abode in the mount that is called Olivet. NIV 37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, RHE 38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him. NIV 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
