RSVA 22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord NIV 22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord RSVA 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") NIV 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord” ), RSVA 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." NIV 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” RSVA 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. NIV 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. RSVA 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. NIV 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. RSVA 30 for mine eyes have seen thy salvation NIV 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, RSVA 31 which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples, NIV 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: RSVA 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel." NIV 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” RSVA 33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; NIV 33 The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. RSVA 34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against NIV 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, RSVA 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed." NIV 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
