Luke 2:41-52

CEB 41 Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival. NIV 41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. CEB 42 When he was 12 years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to their custom. NIV 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. CEB 43 After the festival was over, they were returning home, but the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn't know it. NIV 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. CEB 44 Supposing that he was among their band of travelers, they journeyed on for a full day while looking for him among their family and friends. NIV 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. CEB 45 When they didn't find Jesus, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. NIV 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. CEB 46 After three days they found him in the temple. He was sitting among the teachers, listening to them and putting questions to them. NIV 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. CEB 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed by his understanding and his answers. NIV 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. CEB 48 When his parents saw him, they were shocked. His mother said, "Child, why have you treated us like this? Listen! Your father and I have been worried. We've been looking for you!" NIV 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” CEB 49 Jesus replied, "Why were you looking for me? Didn't you know that it was necessary for me to be in my Father's house?" NIV 49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” CEB 50 But they didn't understand what he said to them. NIV 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them. CEB 51 Jesus went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. His mother cherished every word in her heart. NIV 51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. CEB 52 Jesus matured in wisdom and years, and in favor with God and with people. NIV 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
