ESV 1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness NIV 1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, ESV 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. NIV 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. NIV 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” ESV 5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, NIV 5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. ESV 6 and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. NIV 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. ESV 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." NIV 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.” ESV 8 And Jesus answered him, "It is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" NIV 8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”
