CJB 25 It's true, I'm telling you -- when Eliyahu was in Isra'el, and the sky was sealed off for threeand-a-half years, so that all the Land suffered a severe famine, there were many widows; NIV 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. CJB 26 but Eliyahu was sent to none of them, only to a widow in Tzarfat in the land of Tzidon. NIV 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. CJB 27 Also there were many people with tzara`at in Isra'el during the time of the prophet Elisha; but not one of them was healed, only Na`aman the Syrian." NIV 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosyin the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.” CJB 28 On hearing this, everyone in the synagogue was filled with fury. NIV 28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. CJB 29 They rose up, drove him out of town and dragged him to the edge of the cliff on which their town was built, intending to throw him off. NIV 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. CJB 30 But he walked right through the middle of the crowd and went away. NIV 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way. CJB 31 He went down to K'far-Nachum, a town in the Galil, and made a practice of teaching them on Shabbat. NIV 31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. CJB 32 They were amazed at the way he taught, because his word carried the ring of authority. NIV 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. CJB 33 In the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean demonic spirit, who shouted in a loud voice, NIV 33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, CJB 34 "Yaah! What do you want with us, Yeshua from Natzeret? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are -- the Holy One of God!" NIV 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” CJB 35 But Yeshua rebuked it: "Be quiet, and come out of him!" The demonic spirit threw the man down in the middle of the crowd and came out of him, having done him no harm. NIV 35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
