Luke 5:1-16

RHE 1 And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth, NIV 1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. RHE 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets. NIV 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. RHE 3 And going into one of the ships that was Simon’s, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting, he taught the multitudes out of the ship. NIV 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. RHE 4 Now when he had ceased to speak, he said to Simon: Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught. NIV 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” RHE 5 And Simon answering said to him: Master, we have laboured all the night and have taken nothing: but at thy word I will let down the net. NIV 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” RHE 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes: and their net broke. NIV 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. RHE 7 And they beckoned to their partners that were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the ships, so that they were almost sinking. NIV 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. RHE 8 Which when Simon Peter saw, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying: Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. NIV 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” RHE 9 For he was wholly astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken. NIV 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, RHE 10 And so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon’s partners. And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men. NIV 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” RHE 11 And having brought their ships to land, leaving all things, they followed him. NIV 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. RHE 12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy who, seeing Jesus and falling on his face, besought him saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. NIV 12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” RHE 13 And stretching forth his hand, he touched him, saying: I will. Be thou cleansed. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. NIV 13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him. RHE 14 And he charged him that he should tell no man, but: Go, shew thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing according as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. NIV 14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” RHE 15 But the fame of him went abroad the more: and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities. NIV 15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. RHE 16 And he retired into the desert; and prayed. NIV 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
