HNV 19 Yochanan, calling to himself two of his talmidim, sent them to Yeshua, saying, "Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?" NIV 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” HNV 20 When the men had come to him, they said, "Yochanan the immerser has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?'" NIV 20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’ ” HNV 21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and to many who were blind he gave sight. NIV 21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. HNV 22 Yeshua answered them, "Go and tell Yochanan the things which you have seen and heard: that the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. NIV 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosyare cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. HNV 23 Blessed is he who is not offended by me." NIV 23 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” HNV 24 When Yochanan's messengers had departed, he began to tell the multitudes about Yochanan, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? NIV 24 After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? HNV 25 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed, and live delicately, are in kings' courts. NIV 25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. HNV 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet. NIV 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. HNV 27 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, Who will prepare your way before you.' NIV 27 This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ HNV 28 "For I tell you, among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than Yochanan the immerser, yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." NIV 28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” HNV 29 When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they justified God, being immersed with Yochanan's immersion. NIV 29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.
