CEB 28 About eight days after Jesus said these things, he took Peter, John, and James, and went up on a mountain to pray. NRS 28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. CEB 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes flashed white like lightning. NRS 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. CEB 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, were talking with him. NRS 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. CEB 31 They were clothed with heavenly splendor and spoke about Jesus' departure, which he would achieve in Jerusalem. NRS 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. CEB 32 Peter and those with him were almost overcome by sleep, but they managed to stay awake and saw his glory as well as the two men with him. NRS 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. CEB 33 As the two men were about to leave Jesus, Peter said to him, "Master, it's good that we're here. We should construct three shrines: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"—but he didn't know what he was saying. NRS 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"—not knowing what he said. CEB 34 Peter was still speaking when a cloud overshadowed them. As they entered the cloud, they were overcome with awe. NRS 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. CEB 35 Then a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, my chosen one. Listen to him!" NRS 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!" CEB 36 Even as the voice spoke, Jesus was found alone. They were speechless and at the time told no one what they had seen. NRS 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. CEB 37 The next day, when Jesus, Peter, John, and James had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus. NRS 37 On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. CEB 38 A man from the crowd shouted, "Teacher, I beg you to take a look at my son, my only child. NRS 38 Just then a man from the crowd shouted, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son; he is my only child. CEB 39 Look, a spirit seizes him and, without any warning, he screams. It shakes him and causes him to foam at the mouth. It tortures him and rarely leaves him alone. NRS 39 Suddenly a spirit seizes him, and all at once he shrieks. It convulses him until he foams at the mouth; it mauls him and will scarcely leave him. CEB 40 I begged your disciples to throw it out, but they couldn't." NRS 40 I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not." CEB 41 Jesus answered, "You faithless and crooked generation, how long will I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here." NRS 41 Jesus answered, "You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here." CEB 42 While he was coming, the demon threw him down and shook him violently. Jesus spoke harshly to the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father. NRS 42 While he was coming, the demon dashed him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. CEB 43 Everyone was overwhelmed by God's greatness. While everyone was marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, NRS 43 And all were astounded at the greatness of God. While everyone was amazed at all that he was doing, he said to his disciples,
