The Darby Translation DBY
GOD'S WORD Translation GW
1 For behold, the day cometh, burning as a furnace; and all the proud and all that work wickedness shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith Jehovah of hosts, so that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
1
"Certainly the day is coming! It will burn like a furnace. All arrogant people and all evildoers will be [like] straw. The day that is coming will burn them up completely," says the LORD of Armies. "It won't leave a single root or branch.
2 And unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth and leap like fatted calves.
2
"The Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings for you people who fear my name. You will go out and leap like calves let out of a stall.
3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I prepare, saith Jehovah of hosts.
3
You will trample on wicked people, because on the day I act they will be ashes under the soles of your feet," says the LORD of Armies.
4 Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and ordinances.
4
"Remember the teachings of my servant Moses, the rules and regulations that I gave to him at Horeb for all Israel.
5 Behold, I send unto you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and terrible day of Jehovah.
5
"I'm going to send you the prophet Elijah before that very terrifying day of the LORD comes.
6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
6
He will change parents' attitudes toward their children and children's attitudes toward their parents. If not, I will come and reclaim my land by destroying you."
