1 El día del juicio venidero<br />«¡Miren! Yo envío a mi mensajero y él preparará el camino delante de mí. Entonces el Señor al que ustedes buscan vendrá de repente a su templo. El mensajero del pacto a quien buscan con tanto entusiasmo, sin duda vendrá», dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales.

2 Pero ¿quién será capaz de soportar su venida? ¿Quién podrá mantenerse de pie y estar cara a cara con él cuando aparezca? Pues él será como un fuego abrasador que refina el metal o como un jabón fuerte que blanquea la ropa.

3 Se sentará como un refinador de plata y quemará la escoria. Purificará a los levitas, refinándolos como el oro y la plata, para que vuelvan a ofrecer sacrificios aceptables al Señor<br />.

4 Nuevamente el Señor<br /> recibirá las ofrendas que el pueblo de Judá y Jerusalén le lleven, como lo hizo en el pasado.

5 «En ese día, yo los pondré a juicio. Estoy ansioso por dar testimonio contra todos los hechiceros, los adúlteros y los mentirosos. Declararé en contra de los que estafan a sus empleados con sus sueldos, de los que oprimen a viudas y huérfanos o privan de justicia a los extranjeros que viven entre ustedes, porque gente que hace estas cosas no me teme, dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales.

6 Un llamado al arrepentimiento<br />»Yo soy el Señor<br /> y no cambio. Por eso ustedes, descendientes de Jacob, aún no han sido destruidos.

7 Desde los días de sus antepasados, han despreciado mis decretos y los han desobedecido. Ahora, vuelvan a mí y yo volveré a ustedes, dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales.<br />»Pero ustedes preguntan: “¿Cómo podemos volver cuando nunca nos fuimos?”.

8 »¿Debería el pueblo estafar a Dios? ¡Sin embargo, ustedes me han estafado!<br />»Pero ustedes preguntan: “¿Qué quieres decir? ¿Cuándo te hemos estafado?”.<br />»Me han robado los diezmos y ofrendas que me corresponden.

9 Ustedes están bajo maldición porque toda la nación me ha estado estafando.

10 Traigan todos los diezmos al depósito del templo, para que haya suficiente comida en mi casa. Si lo hacen —dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales— les abriré las ventanas de los cielos. ¡Derramaré una bendición tan grande que no tendrán suficiente espacio para guardarla! ¡Inténtenlo! ¡Pónganme a prueba!

11 »Sus cosechas serán abundantes porque las protegeré de insectos y enfermedades.<br /> Las uvas no caerán de las vides antes de madurar —dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales—.

12 Entonces todas las naciones los llamarán benditos, porque su tierra será un deleite, dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales.

13 »Ustedes han dicho cosas terribles acerca de mí, dice el Señor<br />.<br />»Sin embargo, ustedes preguntan: “¿Qué quieres decir? ¿Qué hemos dicho contra ti?”.

14 »Ustedes han dicho: “¿De qué vale servir a Dios? ¿Qué hemos ganado con obedecer sus mandamientos o demostrarle al Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales que nos sentimos apenados por nuestros pecados?

15 De ahora en adelante llamaremos bendito al arrogante. Pues los que hacen maldad se enriquecen y los que desafían a Dios a que los castigue no sufren ningún daño”».

16 Promesa de la misericordia de Dios<br />Entonces los que temían al Señor<br /> hablaron entre sí y el Señor<br /> escuchó lo que dijeron. En la presencia de él, escribieron un rollo de memorias para registrar los nombres de los que temían al Señor<br /> y siempre pensaban en el honor de su nombre.

17 «Ellos serán mi pueblo —dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales—. El día en que yo venga para juzgar, serán mi tesoro especial. Les tendré compasión así como un padre le muestra compasión a un hijo obediente.

18 Entonces de nuevo podrán ver la diferencia entre los justos y los perversos, entre los que sirven a Dios y los que no lo hacen».

1 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty.

2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.

3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,

4 and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years.

5 “So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the LORD Almighty.

6 “I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.

7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’

8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings.

9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the LORD Almighty.

12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty.

13 “You have spoken arrogantly against me,” says the LORD. “Yet you ask, ‘What have we said against you?’

14 “You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What do we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty?

15 But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly evildoers prosper, and even when they put God to the test, they get away with it.’ ”

16 Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.

17 “On the day when I act,” says the LORD Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him.

18 And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
