1 Entrada triunfal de Jesús<br />Mientras Jesús y los discípulos se acercaban a Jerusalén, llegaron a las ciudades de Betfagé y Betania, en el monte de los Olivos. Jesús mandó a dos de ellos que se adelantaran.

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples,
2 —les dijo—.

saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
3 Si alguien les pregunta: “¿Qué están haciendo?” simplemente digan: “El Señor lo necesita y él lo devolverá pronto”».

If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’ ”
4 Los dos discípulos salieron y encontraron el burrito en la calle, atado frente a la puerta principal.

They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it,
5 Mientras lo desataban, algunos que estaban allí les preguntaron: «¿Qué están haciendo, por qué desatan ese burrito?».

some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”
6 Ellos contestaron lo que Jesús había dicho y se les dio permiso para llevarlo.

They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go.
7 Así que llevaron el burrito a Jesús y pusieron sus prendas encima y él se sentó allí.

When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.
8 Muchos de la multitud tendían sus prendas sobre el camino delante de él y otros extendían ramas frondosas que habían cortado en los campos.

Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.
9 Jesús estaba en el centro de la procesión, y la gente que lo rodeaba gritaba:<br />«¡Alaben a Dios!<br />¡Bendiciones al que viene en el nombre del Señor<br />!

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna! ” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
10 ¡Bendiciones al reino que viene, el reino de nuestro antepasado David!<br />¡Alaben a Dios en el cielo más alto!»<br />.

“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
11 Así Jesús llegó a Jerusalén y entró en el templo. Después de mirar todo detenidamente a su alrededor, salió porque ya era tarde. Después regresó a Betania con los doce discípulos.

Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
12 Jesús maldice la higuera<br />A la mañana siguiente, cuando salían de Betania, Jesús tuvo hambre.

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.
13 Vio que a cierta distancia había una higuera frondosa, así que se acercó para ver si encontraba higos; pero solo tenía hojas porque aún no había comenzado la temporada de los higos.

Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.
14 Entonces Jesús dijo al árbol: <br /> Y los discípulos lo oyeron.

Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
15 Jesús despeja el templo<br />Cuando llegaron de nuevo a Jerusalén, Jesús entró en el templo y comenzó a echar a los que compraban y vendían animales para los sacrificios. Volcó las mesas de los cambistas y las sillas de los que vendían palomas,

On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves,
16 y les prohibió a todos que usaran el templo como un mercado.

and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.
17 Les dijo:

And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
18 Cuando los principales sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley religiosa oyeron lo que Jesús había hecho, comenzaron a planificar cómo matarlo; pero tenían miedo de Jesús, porque la gente estaba asombrada de su enseñanza.

The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19 Esa tarde Jesús y los discípulos salieron<br /> de la ciudad.

When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.
20 A la mañana siguiente, al pasar junto a la higuera que él había maldecido, los discípulos notaron que se había marchitado desde la raíz.

In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
21 Pedro recordó lo que Jesús había dicho al árbol el día anterior y exclamó:<br />—¡Mira, Rabí!<br /> ¡La higuera que maldijiste se marchitó y murió!

Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”
22 Entonces Jesús dijo a los discípulos:

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.
23 Les digo la verdad, ustedes pueden decir a esta montaña: “Levántate y échate al mar”, y sucederá; pero deben creer de verdad que ocurrirá y no tener ninguna duda en el corazón.

“TrulyI tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
24 Les digo, ustedes pueden orar por cualquier cosa y si creen que la han recibido, será suya.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
25 Cuando estén orando, primero perdonen a todo aquel contra quien guarden rencor, para que su Padre que está en el cielo también les perdone a ustedes sus pecados.

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

27 Desafían la autoridad de Jesús<br />Nuevamente entraron en Jerusalén. Mientras Jesús caminaba por la zona del templo, los principales sacerdotes, los maestros de la ley religiosa y los ancianos se le acercaron.

They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him.
28 —¿Con qué autoridad haces todas estas cosas? —le reclamaron—. ¿Quién te dio el derecho de hacerlas?

“By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”
29 —respondió Jesús—.

Jesus replied, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
30 La autoridad de Juan para bautizar, ¿provenía del cielo o era meramente humana? ¡Contéstenme!

John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!”
31 Ellos discutieron el asunto unos con otros: «Si decimos que provenía del cielo, preguntará por qué nosotros no le creímos a Juan.

They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
32 ¿Pero nos atrevemos a decir que era meramente humana?». Pues tenían temor de lo que haría la gente, porque todos creían que Juan era un profeta.

But if we say, ‘Of human origin’ …” (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)
33 Entonces finalmente contestaron:<br />—No sabemos.<br />Y Jesús respondió:

So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
