1 Jesús enseña acerca de la pureza interior<br />Cierto día, algunos fariseos y maestros de la ley religiosa llegaron desde Jerusalén para ver a Jesús.

The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus
2 Notaron que algunos de sus discípulos no seguían el ritual judío de lavarse las manos antes de comer.

and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
3 (Los judíos, sobre todo los fariseos, no comen si antes no han derramado agua sobre el hueco de sus manos,<br /> como exigen sus tradiciones antiguas.

(The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.
4 Tampoco comen nada del mercado sin antes sumergir sus manos<br /> en agua. Esa es solo una de las tantas tradiciones a las que se han aferrado, tal como el lavado ceremonial de vasos, jarras y vasijas de metal).

When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles. )

So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 Jesús contestó:

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
7 Su adoración es una farsa<br />porque enseñan ideas humanas como si fueran mandatos de Dios”<br />.

They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’
8 »Pues ustedes pasan por alto la ley de Dios y la reemplazan con su propia tradición.

You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”
9 Entonces dijo:

And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observeyour own traditions!
10 Por ejemplo, Moisés les dio la siguiente ley de Dios: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre” y “Cualquiera que hable irrespetuosamente de su padre o de su madre<br /> tendrá que morir”<br />.

For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’
11 Sin embargo, ustedes dicen que está bien que uno le diga a sus padres: “Lo siento, no puedo ayudarlos porque he jurado darle a Dios lo que les hubiera dado a ustedes”<br />.

But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)—
12 De esta manera, ustedes permiten que la gente desatienda a sus padres necesitados.

then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother.
13 Y entonces anulan la palabra de Dios para transmitir su propia tradición. Y este es solo un ejemplo entre muchos otros.

Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Luego Jesús llamó a la multitud para que se acercara y oyera.

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this.
15 Lo que entra en el cuerpo no es lo que los contamina; ustedes se contaminan por lo que sale de su corazón»<br />.

Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”

17 Luego Jesús entró en una casa para alejarse de la multitud, y sus discípulos le preguntaron qué quiso decir con la parábola que acababa de emplear.

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.
18 —preguntó—.

“Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them?
19 (Al decir eso, declaró que toda clase de comida es aceptable a los ojos de Dios).

For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
20 Y entonces agregó:

He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.
21 Pues de adentro, del corazón de la persona, salen los malos pensamientos, la inmoralidad sexual, el robo, el asesinato,

For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder,
22 el adulterio, la avaricia, la perversidad, el engaño, los deseos sensuales, la envidia, la calumnia, el orgullo y la necedad.

adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.
23 Todas esas vilezas provienen de adentro; esas son las que los contaminan».

All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
24 La fe de una mujer gentil<br />Luego Jesús salió de Galilea y se dirigió al norte, a la región de Tiro.<br /> No quería que nadie supiera en qué casa se hospedaba, pero no pudo ocultarlo.

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret.
25 Enseguida una mujer que había oído de él se acercó y cayó a sus pies. Su hijita estaba poseída por un espíritu maligno,

In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet.
26 y ella le suplicó que expulsara al demonio de su hija.<br />Como la mujer era una gentil,<br /> nacida en la región de Fenicia que está en Siria,

The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 Jesús le dijo:

“First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 —Es verdad, Señor —respondió ella—, pero hasta a los perros que están debajo de la mesa se les permite comer las sobras del plato de los hijos.

“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 —le dijo Jesús—.

Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 Cuando ella llegó a su casa, encontró a su hijita tranquila recostada en la cama, y el demonio se había ido.

She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
31 Jesús sana a un sordo<br />Jesús salió de Tiro y subió hasta Sidón antes de regresar al mar de Galilea y a la región de las Diez Ciudades.

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis.
32 Le trajeron a un hombre sordo con un defecto del habla, y la gente le suplicó a Jesús que pusiera sus manos sobre el hombre para sanarlo.

There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
33 Jesús lo llevó aparte de la multitud para poder estar a solas con él. Metió sus dedos en los oídos del hombre. Después escupió sobre sus propios dedos y tocó la lengua del hombre.

After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue.
34 Mirando al cielo, suspiró y dijo: <br /> que significa

He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”).
35 Al instante el hombre pudo oír perfectamente bien y se le desató la lengua, de modo que hablaba con total claridad.

At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
36 Jesús le dijo a la multitud que no lo contaran a nadie, pero cuanto más les pedía que no lo hicieran, tanto más hacían correr la voz.

Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it.
37 Quedaron completamente asombrados y decían una y otra vez: «Todo lo que él hace es maravilloso. Hasta hace oír a los sordos y da la capacidad de hablar al que no puede hacerlo».

People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
