SBLGNT 1 Καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἀναστὰς ἔρχεται εἰς τὰ ὅρια τῆς Ἰουδαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, καὶ συμπορεύονται πάλιν ὄχλοι πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ὡς εἰώθει πάλιν ἐδίδασκεν αὐτούς. NIV 1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. SBLGNT 2 Καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν εἰ ἔξεστιν ἀνδρὶ γυναῖκα ἀπολῦσαι, πειράζοντες αὐτόν. NIV 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” SBLGNT 3 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Τί ὑμῖν ἐνετείλατο Μωϋσῆς; NIV 3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied. SBLGNT 4 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν · Ἐπέτρεψεν Μωϋσῆς ⸃ βιβλίον ἀποστασίου γράψαι καὶ ἀπολῦσαι. NIV 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” SBLGNT 5 ὁ δὲ ⸃ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Πρὸς τὴν σκληροκαρδίαν ὑμῶν ἔγραψεν ὑμῖν τὴν ἐντολὴν ταύτην · NIV 5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. SBLGNT 6 ἀπὸ δὲ ἀρχῆς κτίσεως ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ ἐποίησεν αὐτούς · NIV 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ SBLGNT 7 ἕνεκεν τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ προσκολληθήσεται πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ, NIV 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, SBLGNT 8 καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν · ὥστε οὐκέτι εἰσὶν δύο ἀλλὰ μία σάρξ · NIV 8 and the two will become one flesh.’So they are no longer two, but one flesh. SBLGNT 9 ὃ οὖν ὁ θεὸς συνέζευξεν ἄνθρωπος μὴ χωριζέτω. NIV 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” SBLGNT 10 Καὶ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν ⸃ πάλιν οἱ μαθηταὶ περὶ τούτου ⸃ ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν. NIV 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. SBLGNT 11 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς · Ὃς ἂν ἀπολύσῃ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ γαμήσῃ ἄλλην μοιχᾶται ἐπ’ αὐτήν, NIV 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. SBLGNT 12 καὶ ἐὰν αὐτὴ ἀπολύσασα τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς γαμήσῃ ἄλλον ⸃ μοιχᾶται. NIV 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” SBLGNT 13 Καὶ προσέφερον αὐτῷ παιδία ἵνα αὐτῶν ἅψηται ⸃· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ ἐπετίμησαν αὐτοῖς. NIV 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. SBLGNT 14 ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἠγανάκτησεν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με, μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά, τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ. NIV 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. SBLGNT 15 ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὃς ἂν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον, οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτήν. NIV 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” SBLGNT 16 καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὰ κατευλόγει τιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ’ αὐτά. NIV 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. SBLGNT 17 Καὶ ἐκπορευομένου αὐτοῦ εἰς ὁδὸν προσδραμὼν εἷς καὶ γονυπετήσας αὐτὸν ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν · Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσω ἵνα ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω; NIV 17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” SBLGNT 18 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ · Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν; οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ θεός. NIV 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. SBLGNT 19 τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας · Μὴ φονεύσῃς, Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς, Μὴ κλέψῃς, Μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς, Μὴ ἀποστερήσῃς, Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα. NIV 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’” SBLGNT 20 ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτῷ · Διδάσκαλε, ταῦτα πάντα ἐφυλαξάμην ἐκ νεότητός μου. NIV 20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” SBLGNT 21 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐμβλέψας αὐτῷ ἠγάπησεν αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ · Ἕν σε ὑστερεῖ · ὕπαγε ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον καὶ δὸς τοῖς πτωχοῖς, καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν οὐρανῷ, καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι. NIV 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” SBLGNT 22 ὁ δὲ στυγνάσας ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ ἀπῆλθεν λυπούμενος, ἦν γὰρ ἔχων κτήματα πολλά. NIV 22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. SBLGNT 23 Καὶ περιβλεψάμενος ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ · Πῶς δυσκόλως οἱ τὰ χρήματα ἔχοντες εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελεύσονται. NIV 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” SBLGNT 24 οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ ἐθαμβοῦντο ἐπὶ τοῖς λόγοις αὐτοῦ. ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν ἀποκριθεὶς λέγει αὐτοῖς · Τέκνα, πῶς δύσκολόν ἐστιν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν · NIV 24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it isto enter the kingdom of God! SBLGNT 25 εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ τῆς τρυμαλιᾶς τῆς ⸃ ῥαφίδος διελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν. NIV 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” SBLGNT 26 οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες πρὸς ἑαυτούς · Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι; NIV 26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?” SBLGNT 27 ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγει · Παρὰ ἀνθρώποις ἀδύνατον ἀλλ’ οὐ παρὰ θεῷ, πάντα γὰρ δυνατὰ παρὰ τῷ θεῷ. NIV 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” SBLGNT 28 Ἤρξατο λέγειν ὁ Πέτρος ⸃ αὐτῷ · Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν πάντα καὶ ἠκολουθήκαμέν σοι. NIV 28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!” SBLGNT 29 ἔφη ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸃· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ ἀδελφὰς ἢ μητέρα ἢ πατέρα ⸃ ἢ τέκνα ἢ ἀγροὺς ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ καὶ ἕνεκεν τοῦ εὐαγγελίου, NIV 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel SBLGNT 30 ἐὰν μὴ λάβῃ ἑκατονταπλασίονα νῦν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ οἰκίας καὶ ἀδελφοὺς καὶ ἀδελφὰς καὶ μητέρας καὶ τέκνα καὶ ἀγροὺς μετὰ διωγμῶν, καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον. NIV 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. SBLGNT 31 πολλοὶ δὲ ἔσονται πρῶτοι ἔσχατοι καὶ οἱ ἔσχατοι πρῶτοι. NIV 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” SBLGNT 32 Ἦσαν δὲ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἀναβαίνοντες εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, καὶ ἦν προάγων αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἐθαμβοῦντο, οἱ δὲ ⸃ ἀκολουθοῦντες ἐφοβοῦντο. καὶ παραλαβὼν πάλιν τοὺς δώδεκα ἤρξατο αὐτοῖς λέγειν τὰ μέλλοντα αὐτῷ συμβαίνειν NIV 32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. SBLGNT 33 ὅτι Ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδοθήσεται τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ τοῖς γραμματεῦσιν, καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτὸν θανάτῳ καὶ παραδώσουσιν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν NIV 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, SBLGNT 34 καὶ ἐμπαίξουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐμπτύσουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ μαστιγώσουσιν αὐτὸν ⸃ καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν, καὶ μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ⸃ ἀναστήσεται. NIV 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.” SBLGNT 35 Καὶ προσπορεύονται αὐτῷ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης οἱ υἱοὶ Ζεβεδαίου λέγοντες αὐτῷ · Διδάσκαλε, θέλομεν ἵνα ὃ ἐὰν αἰτήσωμέν σε ποιήσῃς ἡμῖν. NIV 35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” SBLGNT 36 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Τί θέλετε ποιήσω ὑμῖν; NIV 36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. SBLGNT 37 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ · Δὸς ἡμῖν ἵνα εἷς σου ἐκ δεξιῶν ⸃ καὶ εἷς ἐξ ἀριστερῶν καθίσωμεν ἐν τῇ δόξῃ σου. NIV 37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.” SBLGNT 38 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Οὐκ οἴδατε τί αἰτεῖσθε · δύνασθε πιεῖν τὸ ποτήριον ὃ ἐγὼ πίνω, ἢ τὸ βάπτισμα ὃ ἐγὼ βαπτίζομαι βαπτισθῆναι; NIV 38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” SBLGNT 39 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ · Δυνάμεθα. ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Τὸ ποτήριον ὃ ἐγὼ πίνω πίεσθε καὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ὃ ἐγὼ βαπτίζομαι βαπτισθήσεσθε, NIV 39 “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, SBLGNT 40 τὸ δὲ καθίσαι ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἢ ἐξ εὐωνύμων οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὸν δοῦναι, ἀλλ’ οἷς ἡτοίμασται. NIV 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.” SBLGNT 41 Καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ δέκα ἤρξαντο ἀγανακτεῖν περὶ Ἰακώβου καὶ Ἰωάννου. NIV 41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. SBLGNT 42 καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸃ λέγει αὐτοῖς · Οἴδατε ὅτι οἱ δοκοῦντες ἄρχειν τῶν ἐθνῶν κατακυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ μεγάλοι αὐτῶν κατεξουσιάζουσιν αὐτῶν. NIV 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. SBLGNT 43 οὐχ οὕτως δέ ἐστιν ἐν ὑμῖν · ἀλλ’ ὃς ἂν θέλῃ μέγας γενέσθαι ⸃ ἐν ὑμῖν, ἔσται ὑμῶν διάκονος, NIV 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, SBLGNT 44 καὶ ὃς ἂν θέλῃ ἐν ὑμῖν εἶναι ⸃ πρῶτος, ἔσται πάντων δοῦλος · NIV 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. SBLGNT 45 καὶ γὰρ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οὐκ ἦλθεν διακονηθῆναι ἀλλὰ διακονῆσαι καὶ δοῦναι τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ λύτρον ἀντὶ πολλῶν. NIV 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” SBLGNT 46 Καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς Ἰεριχώ. καὶ ἐκπορευομένου αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Ἰεριχὼ καὶ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ὄχλου ἱκανοῦ ὁ υἱὸς Τιμαίου Βαρτιμαῖος τυφλὸς προσαίτης ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν. NIV 46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. SBLGNT 47 καὶ ἀκούσας ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζαρηνός ἐστιν ἤρξατο κράζειν καὶ λέγειν · Υἱὲ Δαυὶδ Ἰησοῦ, ἐλέησόν με. NIV 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” SBLGNT 48 καὶ ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ πολλοὶ ἵνα σιωπήσῃ · ὁ δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν · Υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με. NIV 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” SBLGNT 49 καὶ στὰς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν · Φωνήσατε αὐτόν. καὶ φωνοῦσι τὸν τυφλὸν λέγοντες αὐτῷ · Θάρσει, ἔγειρε, φωνεῖ σε. NIV 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” SBLGNT 50 ὁ δὲ ἀποβαλὼν τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ ἀναπηδήσας ἦλθεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν. NIV 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. SBLGNT 51 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν ⸃· Τί σοι θέλεις ποιήσω; ὁ δὲ τυφλὸς εἶπεν αὐτῷ · Ραββουνι, ἵνα ἀναβλέψω. NIV 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” SBLGNT 52 καὶ ὁ ⸃ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ · Ὕπαγε, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε. καὶ εὐθὺς ἀνέβλεψεν, καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ. NIV 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
