NIV 37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.” RSV 38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" NIV 38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” RSV 39 And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; NIV 39 “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, RSV 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.” RSV 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. RSV 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. NIV 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. RSV 43 But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, NIV 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, RSV 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. NIV 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. RSV 45 For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." NIV 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” RSV 46 And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimae'us, a blind beggar, the son of Timae'us, was sitting by the roadside. NIV 46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging.
