Mark 12:1-11

ESV 1 And he began to speak to them in parables. "A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and leased it to tenants and went into another country. NIV 1 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. ESV 2 When the season came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. NIV 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. ESV 3 And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. NIV 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. ESV 4 Again he sent to them another servant, and they struck him on the head and treated him shamefully. NIV 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. ESV 5 And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. NIV 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed. ESV 6 He had still one other, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' NIV 6 “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ ESV 7 But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' NIV 7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ ESV 8 And they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard. NIV 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. ESV 9 What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others. NIV 9 “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. ESV 10 Have you not read this Scripture: "'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; NIV 10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; ESV 11 this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" NIV 11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
