NRSA 13 Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians to trap him in what he said. NIV 13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. NRSA 14 And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not? NIV 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? NRSA 15 Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why are you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me see it." NIV 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” NRSA 16 And they brought one. Then he said to them, "Whose head is this, and whose title?" They answered, "The emperor's." NIV 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”“Caesar’s,” they replied. NRSA 17 Jesus said to them, "Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him. NIV 17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”And they were amazed at him. NRSA 18 Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, saying, NIV 18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. NRSA 19 "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, the man shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother. NIV 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. NRSA 20 There were seven brothers; the first married and, when he died, left no children; NIV 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. NRSA 21 and the second married the widow and died, leaving no children; and the third likewise; NIV 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. NRSA 22 none of the seven left children. Last of all the woman herself died. NIV 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. NRSA 23 In the resurrection whose wife will she be? For the seven had married her." NIV 23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
