Mark 1:21-28

NRS 21 They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. NIV 21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. NRS 22 They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. NIV 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. NRS 23 Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, NIV 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, NRS 24 and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." NIV 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” NRS 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" NIV 25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” NRS 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. NIV 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. NRS 27 They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, "What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." NIV 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” NRS 28 At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee. NIV 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
