Mark 2

HNV

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.
1 When he entered again into Kafar-Nachum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house.
2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.
2 Immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them.
3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.
3 Four people came, carrying a paralytic to him.
4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.
4 When they could not come near to him for the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on.
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
5 Yeshua, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you."
6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,
6 But there were some of the Sofrim sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
7 "Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
8 Immediately Yeshua, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?
9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?
9 Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?'
10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man,
10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on eretz to forgive sins" -- he said to the paralytic --
11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
11 "I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house."
12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
12 He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.
13 He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them.
14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
14 As he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Halfai, sitting at the place of toll, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he arose and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.
15 It happened, that he was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Yeshua and his talmidim, for there were many, and they followed him.
16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
16 The Sofrim and the Perushim, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his talmidim, "Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
17 When Yeshua heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”
18 Yochanan's talmidim and the Perushim were fasting, and they came and asked him, "Why do Yochanan's talmidim and the talmidim of the Perushim fast, but your talmidim don't fast?"
19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.
19 Yeshua said to them, "Can the sons of the bride chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can't fast.
20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.
20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then will they fast in that day.
21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.
21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made.
22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
22 No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and the wine pours out, and the skins will be destroyed; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins."
23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.
23 It happened that he was going on the day of Shabbat through the grain fields, and his talmidim began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain.
24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
24 The Perushim said to him, "Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the day of Shabbat?"
25 He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?
25 He said to them, "Did you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry -- he, and they who were with him?
26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.”
26 How he entered into the house of God when Avyatar was Kohen Gadol, and ate the show bread, which it is not lawful to eat except for the Kohanim, and gave also to those who were with him?"
27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
27 He said to them, "The Shabbat was made for man, not man for the Shabbat.
28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
28 Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Shabbat."
