NAS 17 When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. NIV 17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. NAS 18 And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, NIV 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? NAS 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated ?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) NIV 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) NAS 20 And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. NIV 20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. NAS 21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, NIV 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, NAS 22 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy , slander, pride and foolishness. NIV 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. NAS 23 "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." NIV 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
