WEB 29 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ." NIV 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” WEB 30 He charged them that they should tell no one about him. NIV 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. WEB 31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. NIV 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. WEB 32 He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. NIV 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. WEB 33 But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men." NIV 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” WEB 34 He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, "Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. NIV 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. WEB 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. NIV 35 For whoever wants to save their lifewill lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. WEB 36 For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? NIV 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? WEB 37 For what should a man give in exchange for his life? NIV 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? WEB 38 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." NIV 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
