Matthew 12:22-50

CSB 22 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to Him. He healed him, so that the man could both speak and see. NIV 22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. CSB 23 And all the crowds were astounded and said, "Perhaps this is the Son of David!" NIV 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” CSB 24 When the Pharisees heard this, they said, "The man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons." NIV 24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” CSB 25 Knowing their thoughts, He told them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. NIV 25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. CSB 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? NIV 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? CSB 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, who is it your sons drive them out by? For this reason they will be your judges. NIV 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. CSB 28 If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. NIV 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. CSB 29 How can someone enter a strong man's house and steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. NIV 29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house. CSB 30 Anyone who is not with Me is against Me, and anyone who does not gather with Me scatters. NIV 30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. CSB 31 Because of this, I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. NIV 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. CSB 32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the one to come. NIV 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. CSB 33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. NIV 33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. CSB 34 Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. NIV 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. CSB 35 A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil man produces evil things from his storeroom of evil. NIV 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. CSB 36 I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. NIV 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. CSB 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." NIV 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” CSB 38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You." NIV 38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” CSB 39 But He answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. NIV 39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. CSB 40 For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. NIV 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. CSB 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah's proclamation; and look-something greater than Jonah is here! NIV 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. CSB 42 The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look-something greater than Solomon is here! NIV 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here. CSB 43 "When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn't find any. NIV 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. CSB 44 Then it says, 'I'll go back to my house that I came from.' And when it arrives, it finds [the house] vacant, swept, and put in order. NIV 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. CSB 45 Then off it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man's last condition is worse than the first. That's how it will also be with this evil generation." NIV 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” CSB 46 He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly His mother and brothers were standing outside wanting to speak to Him. NIV 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. CSB 47 Someone told Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You." NIV 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” CSB 48 But He replied to the one who told Him, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?" NIV 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” CSB 49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! NIV 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. CSB 50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, that person is My brother and sister and mother." NIV 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
