Matthew 12:22-50

RHE 22 Then was offered to him one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb: and he healed him, so that he spoke and saw. NIV 22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. RHE 23 And all the multitudes were amazed, and said: Is not this the son of David? NIV 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” RHE 24 But the Pharisees hearing it, said: This man casteth not out devils but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. NIV 24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” RHE 25 And Jesus knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself shall be made desolate: and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. NIV 25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. RHE 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself: how then shall his kingdom stand? NIV 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? RHE 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. NIV 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. RHE 28 But if I by the Spirit of God cast out devils, then is the kingdom of God come upon you. NIV 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. RHE 29 Or how can any one enter into the house of the strong, and rifle his goods, unless he first bind the strong? and then he will rifle his house. NIV 29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house. RHE 30 He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth. NIV 30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. RHE 31 Therefore I say to you: Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but the blasphemy of the Spirit shall not be forgiven. NIV 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. RHE 32 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but he that shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him neither in this world, nor in the world to come. NIV 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. RHE 33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good: or make the tree evil, and its fruit evil. For by the fruit the tree is known. NIV 33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. RHE 34 O generation of vipers, how can you speak good things, whereas you are evil? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. NIV 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. RHE 35 A good man out of a good treasure bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of an evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. NIV 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. RHE 36 But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment. NIV 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. RHE 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. NIV 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” RHE 38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying: Master, we would see a sign from thee. NIV 38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” RHE 39 Who answering said to them: An evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. NIV 39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. RHE 40 For as Jonas was in the whale’s belly three days and three nights: so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. NIV 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. RHE 41 The men of Ninive shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they did penance at the preaching of Jonas. And behold a greater than Jonas here. NIV 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. RHE 42 The queen of the south shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon here. NIV 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here. RHE 43 And when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walketh through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none. NIV 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. RHE 44 Then he saith: I will return into my house from whence I came out. And coming he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. NIV 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. RHE 45 Then he goeth, and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is made worse than the first. So shall it be also to this wicked generation. NIV 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” RHE 46 As he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him. NIV 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. RHE 47 And one said unto him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking thee. NIV 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” RHE 48 But he answering him that told him, said: Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? NIV 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” RHE 49 And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren. NIV 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. RHE 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother. NIV 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
