Matthew 15:14-24

NLT 14 so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.” NIV 14 Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” NLT 15 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Explain to us the parable that says people aren’t defiled by what they eat.” NIV 15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.” NLT 16 “Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked. NIV 16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. NLT 17 “Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer. NIV 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? NLT 18 But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you. NIV 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. NLT 19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. NIV 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. NLT 20 These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” NIV 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.” NLT 21 Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. NIV 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. NLT 22 A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.” NIV 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” NLT 23 But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. “Tell her to go away,” they said. “She is bothering us with all her begging.” NIV 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” NLT 24 Then Jesus said to the woman, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.” NIV 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
