KJV 13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. NIV 13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. KJV 14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.#rl KJV 15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are. You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’ KJV 17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? NIV 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? KJV 18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. NIV 18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ KJV 19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?#rl NIV 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? KJV 20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. KJV 23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. NIV 23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. KJV 24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. NIV 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. KJV 25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. NIV 25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. KJV 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. NIV 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. KJV 27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. NIV 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. KJV 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. NIV 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. KJV 29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, NIV 29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. KJV 30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. NIV 30 And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ KJV 31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. NIV 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. KJV 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. NIV 32 Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started! KJV 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? NIV 33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? KJV 34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: NIV 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. KJV 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. NIV 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. KJV 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.#rl NIV 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation. KJV 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! NIV 37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
