Matthew 28

RHE

GW

1 And in the end of the sabbath, when it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalen and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre.
1 After the day of worship, as the sun rose Sunday morning, Mary from Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 And behold there was a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and coming rolled back the stone and sat upon it.
2 Suddenly, there was a powerful earthquake. An angel of the Lord had come down from heaven, rolled the stone away, and was sitting on it.
3 And his countenance was as lightning and his raiment as snow.
3 He was as bright as lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow.
4 And for fear of him, the guards were struck with terror and became as dead men.
4 The guards were so deathly afraid of him that they shook.
5 And the angel answering, said to the women: Fear not you: for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
5 The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid! I know you're looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 He is not here. For he is risen, as he said. Come, and see the place where the Lord was laid.
6 He's not here. He has been brought back to life as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying.
7 And going quickly, tell ye his disciples that he is risen. And behold he will go before you into Galilee. There you shall see him. Lo, I have foretold it to you.
7 Then go quickly, and tell his disciples that he has been brought back to life. He's going ahead of them into Galilee. There they will see him. Take note that I have told you."
8 And they went out quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy, running to tell his disciples.
8 They hurried away from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.
9 And behold, Jesus met them, saying: All hail. But they came up and took hold of his feet and adored him.
9 Suddenly, Jesus met them and greeted them. They went up to him, bowed down to worship him, and took hold of his feet.
10 Then Jesus said to them: Fear not. Go, tell my brethren that they go into Galilee. There they shall see me.
10 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go, tell my followers to go to Galilee. There they will see me."
11 Who when they were departed, behold, some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests all things that had been done.
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened.
12 And they being assembled together with the ancients, taking counsel, gave a great sum of money to the soldiers,
12 The chief priests gathered together with the leaders and agreed on a plan. They gave the soldiers a large amount of money
13 Saying: Say you, His disciples came by night and stole him away when we were asleep.
13 and told them to say that Jesus' disciples had come at night and had stolen his body while they were sleeping.
14 And if the governor shall hear of this, we will persuade him and secure you.
14 [They added,] "If the governor hears about it, we'll take care of it, and you'll have nothing to worry about."
15 So they taking the money, did as they were taught: and this word was spread abroad among the Jews even unto this day.
15 The soldiers took the money and did as they were told. Their story has been spread among the Jewish people to this day.
16 And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
16 The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.
17 And seeing him they adored: but some doubted.
17 When they saw him, they bowed down in worship, though some had doubts.
18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.
18 When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
19 So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.
20 Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. "And remember that I am always with you until the end of time."
