GOD'S WORD Translation GW
1 At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.
1
After the day of worship, as the sun rose Sunday morning, Mary from Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from Heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
2
Suddenly, there was a powerful earthquake. An angel of the Lord had come down from heaven, rolled the stone away, and was sitting on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.
3
He was as bright as lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow.
4 And for fear of him the guards shook and became as dead men.
4
The guards were so deathly afraid of him that they shook.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, "Fear ye not, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.
5
The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid! I know you're looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 He is not here, for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
6
He's not here. He has been brought back to life as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying.
7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and behold, He goeth before you into Galilee. There shall ye see Him. Lo, I have told you."
7
Then go quickly, and tell his disciples that he has been brought back to life. He's going ahead of them into Galilee. There they will see him. Take note that I have told you."
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
8
They hurried away from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, "All hail." And they came, and held Him by the feet, and worshiped Him.
9
Suddenly, Jesus met them and greeted them. They went up to him, bowed down to worship him, and took hold of his feet.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, "Be not afraid. Go tell My brethren to go into Galilee, and there shall they see Me."
10
Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go, tell my followers to go to Galilee. There they will see me."
11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the guards came into the city and reported unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
11
While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened.
12 And when they were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a large sum of money unto the soldiers,
12
The chief priests gathered together with the leaders and agreed on a plan. They gave the soldiers a large amount of money
13 saying, "Say ye, `His disciples came by night and stole him away while we slept.'
13
and told them to say that Jesus' disciples had come at night and had stolen his body while they were sleeping.
14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and secure you."
14
[They added,] "If the governor hears about it, we'll take care of it, and you'll have nothing to worry about."
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught; and this account is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
15
The soldiers took the money and did as they were told. Their story has been spread among the Jewish people to this day.
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee onto a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
16
The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.
17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
17
When they saw him, they bowed down in worship, though some had doubts.
18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, "All power is given unto Me in Heaven and on earth.
18
When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,
19
So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Amen.
20
Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. "And remember that I am always with you until the end of time."
